We are independent from any local or county political organization. Lancaster’s Latino community continues to grow in all aspects of Lancaster County society – in numbers, in influence, and in historic long-lasting presence. The strong and vibrant Puerto Rican community was established in the city more than 6 decades ago. Today, there is a diverse Latino community residing all over Lancaster Count
y. The county provides enormous opportunities for this community to intentionally and strategically become a model Latino community to the state and an inspiration to the nation. However, an inclusive-strategic agenda is needed to become the engine to set this vibrant community in motion. There are more than 48,000 Latinos in Lancaster County, already surpassing the Amish community. Latinos represents the fastest growing ethnic group in the county, state and nation. There are Latinos in all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties – close to 1 million Latinos call PA their home. Lancaster is a hub for this progressive community. Latinos already represents 40% of Lancaster City’s population and more than 59% of the student population in the School District of Lancaster. While Lancaster County's overall population has grown 1.4 percent since the 2010 census - from 519,445 to 526,823 - its number of Hispanic residents alone climbed 8.7 percent. Hispanics made up 9.3 percent of the county's population in 2012, compared to 8.6 percent in 2010. The Latino population in Lancaster County has grown by 68 percent in the last 10 years, the fifth-largest gain in Latinos statewide. The Latino community continues to emerge as a force in the community. To continue building on the early years more than 60 years ago, the 1989 historic appointment of Maggie Roman to City Council, and the strong grassroots foundation of the Lancaster Latino Democrats movement, the time has come to organized a caucus to support the growth of the Lancaster County Democratic Party but also to represent the values, aspirations and dreams of the community.
