Garrard County Public Library Donation Policy
he Garrard County Public Library accepts gifts of new or gently-used books, magazines, DVDs, and music or books on CD.

The library offers a wide variety of services - books and movies to check out, free downloadable materials, fax, copy, scanning and notary service, genealogy and local history information and programs for all ages! Decisions on whether and how donated items will be added to the Library's collections are based on the same evaluative criteria that are applied to purchased materials. The Library acce

pts the following materials in good condition:

Adult and children's non-fiction books published within the last 5 years
Unabridged audiobooks on CD
Current adult fiction books
Current paperback books
New and classic children's fiction books
Music CDs
DVDs

Items that are not added to the collections become part of the Library's ongoing book sale, which generate monies for library programs and services. There are some items that we simply can't use. These include:

Weekly news magazines and newspapers
Reader's Digest Condensed Books
National Geographic magazines
VHS videos
Cassette tapes
Encyclopedias and textbooks

All donations can be dropped off at the Garrard County Public Library during open hours. Please call ahead to make arrangements for large donations. The Library does not assign a value to donated items, but can provide a receipt indicating that we have received the materials.

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and it is the perfect time to discover everything your library card unlocks. Any child who signs up for a new library card, or presents their existing library card to a librarian at the desk, can select a special prize from our treasure chest. We also have great programs happening all month long. Be sure to check our September calendar or speak with a librarian on your next visit to learn more about what we have planned.

Paint Lick, your brand new Little Free Library is officially open for readers! Head on over to the Butterfly Garden at Copperhead Consulting to check out our newest addition. These mini libraries are 100% free for the community. Stop by anytime to take a book, leave a book, or pass along a story you love to your neighbors.

A huge thank you to Copperhead Consulting and the Denny House for helping us bring this project to life and making reading accessible for everyone in Garrard County!

Important Update Regarding Our Fax Service

We have recently upgraded our phone system at the library. As part of this transition, we are no longer able to receive incoming faxes through our old fax phone number, so any documents you need to send to us will need to be emailed to [email protected].

However, if you need to send an outgoing fax, we can still help you with that at the library since our outgoing faxes are sent through an online service.

Thank you for your understanding as we update our systems. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call or stop by the desk.

When people talk about Dolly Parton, they usually mention the rhinestones, the hit records, and that iconic voice. Here at the library, we think of something else first: The Book Lady.

Dolly knew that any child with a book in hand is a child with a future. Years from now, millions of adults will remember the pure magic of getting mail addressed directly to them as a kid, ripping open that package, and diving into a brand new story of their own.

She gave us Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, and 9 to 5... but her greatest masterpiece was giving over 200 million free books to children who needed them.

We’re turning our comment section into a community thank you card for Dolly’s legacy. ❤️ Did you grow up receiving Imagination Library books, or is your little one getting them right now? Drop a comment below with your favorite book from Dolly or a memory of reading together!

Story Time will be at its normal time and spot in the library tomorrow morning.

The Driver's License Pop-Up event is taking place in the old EKU building. If you are attending the pop-up event, parking is available on the square. You are also welcome to park in the back library parking lot and walk through the building to get to the event space.

THAT IS A WRAP ON SUMMER READING!!

What an incredible summer we had digging into books, tracking reading goals, and getting creative together as we set out to Unearth a Story. We want to send a giant thank you to all of our amazing readers and families who came out, checked out books, attended events, and filled our library with so much energy. A special thank you goes to the talented performers who kept us entertained all summer long with their fantastic shows, and to our generous sponsors whose donated prizes that helped make our program such a success. Congratulations to all of our prize drawing winners. We hope you enjoy your rewards, because you truly earned them.
