The Town Line Fire Department has proudly been serving the Lancaster and Alden communities since 1921. Based out of our main hall at 6507 Broadway and Station #2 on 63 Cemetery Road - the Town Line Fire Department responded to 1040 alarms in 2024. Chief - Brett Broska

It's hard to believe twenty-five years have passed since the day our country came under attack. We all remember vividly the events of that day; where we were, the sounds, the sights, the smells, the helpless fear as we watched it all unfold in front of us on the television and radio that day and for weeks afterward.

We will never forget the brave men and women who lost their lives on one of the most tragic days in our country's history. We remember the firefighters and emergency responders who perished not only on that day, but also in the years since from illnesses caused from the rescue efforts at the fallen buildings. We remember the heroes who took over Flight 93 and the unsung heroes in at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon who helped a coworker to safety or held their hand until the end. We remember the passengers and crews on the four ill-fated flights, and we remember the loved ones those that perished left behind.

Take a moment today to remember those who lost their lives and take a moment to remember how we came together as one in the days and weeks following.

🚌🍎🚸Believe it or not, it is that time of year again!

Beginning tomorrow, September 8th, children in the Lancaster School District are heading back to school. Please be sure to leave extra time for your morning commute as the first week or so always come with delays as bus drivers and children learn their new morning routines. Please use extreme caution and keep an eye out for children waiting for school buses and those walking to school.

A reminder that it is the law that all drivers must stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing, regardless of the direction of approach, the presence of a median, or multiple lanes between the vehicle and the bus. Vehicles must remain stopped at least 20 feet away until the bus resumes motion or the driver signals it is safe to proceed. Yellow flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop, and drivers should slow down and prepare to stop, but may continue moving cautiously until the red lights activate.

Be safe, be smart, and have a great first day kids!!

Today we honor and recognize the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of our country. Beginning in the late 19th century, as the trade union and labor movements grew, diverse groups of trade unionists chose a variety of days on which to celebrate labor. The first labor day parade was held in New York City in 1882 and became a federal holiday in 1894.

We thank workers across our town, state, and country who work hard for the betterment of our lives, and we thank our volunteer firefighters who not only work 40+ hours a week to support their families, but then selflessly donate their time to help others.

This month in history we bring you back to September 7, 1922 and the official formation of the Town Line Volunteer Fire Department.

Prior to the formation of the fire department, the residents of Town Line had to rely on the Village of Lancaster and Bowmansville Fire Departments for fire equipment. In 1918, Town Line had a serious fire on the southeast corner of Broadway and Town Line Road known as the Kwiatkowski property. The heat from this fire scorched the east side of the Town Line Hotel which stood at the southwest corner of the intersection. It was after this and another fire that the residents of Town Line started discussing the formation of a fire department. It took a few years to get actual results, but in 1921 a Citizens Improvement Committee was formed at a public meeting to begin formal discussion. Seven directors were elected; CF King, Henry Kiefer, JC Weil, Philip Reiner, Herbert Webster, Fred Weber, and RG Howie.

After several months of meetings, the Citizens Improvement Committee, along with a group of local men, gathered on September 7, 1922 at the two-room school located on Broadway just east of Town Line Road and officially formed the Town Line Volunteer Fire Department.

The first fire truck was purchased in 1923 from the Buffalo Appliance Corporation for a sum of $1,600 and the first fire station was located at 6515 Broadway and consisted of a house and barn used for wagon making on the Adam Zeigler property located about 600 feet east of our present station. The property was initially rented and then officially purchased from Katie Ziegler on March 12, 1925.

The population of our district has certainly grown over the past 104 years and much has changed with advancement in firefighting equipment, but our mission remains the same - to help our fellow neighbors in their greatest time of need.

A tornado watch does not mean one has been spotted or is on the way. However, it DOES mean that tornadoes are possible given the weather conditions heading our way this evening. The following steps can help you stay safe and save lives should a tornado develop.

✅Review and discuss your emergency plans
✅Take inventory of supplies
✅Check your safe room
✅Keep an eye and ear on local media sources for changing weather updates
✅Be ready to take action if a warning is issued or if you suspect a tornado is approaching

Our department is staffed with 100% volunteers, just like YOU! Our volunteers are males and females that range from the age of 16 to 82 and come in all shapes and sizes. Each volunteer brings a unique strength, perspective, and skill to our department making our teams stronger and more effective. Whether you’re starting a new chapter or looking to give back, your community needs your dedication, courage, and teamwork to answer the call.

In addition to needing interior firefighters, we also need exterior firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and drivers. Our volunteers are just like you; spouses, parents, grandparents, students, full-time workers, and retirees. We will work with you to find that work/home balance and pride ourselves in making you and your family part of ours. Together we can create diverse and resilient teams that protect what matters most.
