Become a Community Sponsor & Help Us Train Our Next Cohort of Therapy Dogs

South Hunterdon Regional School District is proud of our partnership with Attitudes In Reverse® (AIR) and the positive impact our therapy dogs are having on students and staff throughout our schools.

Our therapy dogs provide something very special. They help create a calming presence for students, provide comfort during stressful moments, encourage positive connections, and simply bring joy to our schools. As one of our students shared, spending time with a therapy dog can help students feel calm, happy, and supported.

Now We Need Our Community's Help!

Our first cohort of therapy dogs included seven trained dogs and their staff handlers. Over the past several years, some of these dogs have either retired from the program or sadly passed away, leaving us with just two active therapy dogs today.

We are eager to continue and expand this valuable program by training a second cohort of South Hunterdon teachers and their dogs. Unfortunately, the cost of specialized training is significant, and we currently do not have the funding needed to move forward. We are seeking community partners and sponsors who may be interested in helping us bring the next generation of therapy dogs to South Hunterdon.

Through the AIRs program, each participating dog and staff member completes an extensive training program that includes 30 weeks of training, equipment, program materials, and testing.

We invite you to help us bring even more therapy dogs into our schools by sponsoring the next generation of South Hunterdon AIR Dogs. Every contribution helps. Whether you choose to sponsor a team, make a larger corporate contribution, or simply contribute what you can, your support will directly help expand this program for South Hunterdon students.

Donations are made through Attitudes In Reverse® (AIR), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and can be designated specifically for the South Hunterdon AIR Dogs program.

Calling All Community Experts: Our Students Need You!

As we begin the new school year, we are excited to continue building connections between our classrooms and the incredible talents, experiences, and expertise that exist throughout the South Hunterdon community.

Last year, more than 40 community members visited classrooms across our district, sharing their professional knowledge, experiences, and talents with students. These visits helped students make meaningful connections between what they are learning in school and how that learning is applied in the real world.

This year, we are looking to build on that success by expanding our Community Classroom Program and growing our database of community members who are willing to share their expertise with our students.
Community members may be invited to visit classrooms, participate in projects or special events, speak with groups of students, or share career and life experiences that complement what students are learning. Opportunities may take place across all grade levels and subject areas.

New This Year: Pathways Speaker Series
As part of the launch of our new Pathways Program, we are also developing a monthly speaker series for students in grades 9–12. Throughout the school year, we hope to introduce students to professionals representing a wide variety of careers, industries, trades, and postsecondary pathways. We will be looking for community members willing to serve as presenters and talk with students about topics such as their career journey, education or training, day-to-day work, skills needed for success, lessons learned, and advice for students considering similar opportunities.

Whether you are a business owner, healthcare professional, artist, engineer, tradesperson, entrepreneur, first responder, public servant, financial professional, educator, scientist, technology professional or have another experience or area of expertise to share, we would love to hear from you.

If you registered last year and remain interested, there is no need to register again. We will keep you in our Community Classroom database.

This morning Ms. Alam and our Choral students joined the choral students from Hunterdon Central, Voorhees and DelVal high schools to sing "HOPE LINGERS ON" at Hunterdon County’s 25th Anniversary Commemoration of September 11th and
Memorial Dedication. Check out their performance which included a flyover by the State Police.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday heroes who demonstrated extraordinary bravery in the face of tragedy.

As a school community, may we continue to teach and model the values of compassion, unity, service, and kindness.
