Public information

We wanted to clear the air about some false information posted on FB earlier today.
There was a post that 2 Lamar Firefighters had tested positive for Covid-19. We do have 3 firefighters that have possibly been exposed. They have been taken out of service and will not respond until clear test results have returned. All the precautions have been taken to continue to serve the community in a safe manner.

Thank you
Chief Jimmy Ogden

Have you ever wanted to give back to your community? Have you ever wanted to help people in need?
The Lamar Volunteer Fire Department is needing volunteers to help replace the aging workforce. Being a part of the fire department you will receive life saving training and become part of a family of firefighters. The fire department responds to anything from medical calls to fires. The lack of volunteers is at an all time low nationwide. This is not just a local problem. Your local fire departments survival and success means lower insurance rates for homeowners. Many people depend on us for help including your local ambulances. They depend on the local fire department to arrive ahead of them and provide basic life support. Your local fire department is also responsible for extraction of trapped people from vehicle accidents. Being a part of the fire department is not an easy task. Unknown to most of the community a lot of time is spent on training, calls, vehicle maintenance and etc. Most all fire departments perform all there own maintenance on vehicles and building to try and save money. Unfortunately all fire departments survive on extremely small budgets.

On the plus side some of the benefits to being on the Lamer Volunteer Fire Department. You will receive CPR training, Emergency Medical responder training(optional), Lots of firefighter training, State retirement after 20 years (as of now approx 200$ per month for 20 years), Accident/life insurance that covers you at the fire department and when your on personal time also. We continue to try to add benefits as we can financially. You do have to make most meeting and training and 75% of general fire calls inside our district. We do ask you live inside the Lamar Fire District or very close to it anyways.
We currently have 12 firefighters with 3 set to retire in the next couple of years. A full crew is 25 firefighters. So as you can see we are operating at 50%. All of the fire depa rtment members has full time jobs also so trying to respond to everything is a tough job on its own sometimes.

If you have any questions or interest in more information don’t hesitate to call me.
