It’s Fire Prevention Week Day 5! 🔥

The theme this year is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!”

🚨Do smoke alarms require maintenance?

You should test your smoke alarm once a month, and replace your smoke alarms every ten years!

If you do not hear the "chirp, chirp, chirp" or the unit is unresponsive when testing your smoke alarm, replace the battery or the entire unit!

Don't miss this new training! "Perils of Healthcare", presented at the SFPE Rocky Mountain Chapter Meeting on September 12, 2024.

🔗Visit the linkTree in our bio to learn more and register now!

Guest Presenters Patrick Conroy, Tami Holley, PE, and Morgan Matthew, DFPC come together to share a wealth of knowledge and experience in healthcare design and construction.

Given the inherent complexity of healthcare construction it is critical that designers, builders, and regulators all collaborate throughout a project life cycle to bring it to a successful conclusion. The design and construction of healthcare facilities in Colorado can involve a myriad of rules and regulations, applicable codes and standards and multiple Authorities Having Jurisdiction. This can, and often has, led to confusion, code conflicts and coordination issues.

This presentation will review the applicable codes and standards, and the various “gotcha’s” that could be seen along the way. The presentation will also focus on the unique aspects of healthcare facilities, especially with respect to allowances permitted for a “defend-in-place” life safety strategy.

On July 20, 2024, the Colorado Chapter of the International Code Council (CCICC) held its annual Give A Day event, a tradition where the chapter collaborates with a local organization to support projects that enhance safety and strengthen community connections. This year, CCICC joined forces with Wilderness on Wheels (WOW) to make significant improvements to the WOW Boardwalk.

DFPC's PDU member Mark Remy was among those who volunteered, and contributed his 25 years of expertise as a general contractor to the project.

“At the beginning of the project, we developed a plan: who’s going do what, what materials were needed, how we were going to implement this plan so that we could be as efficient as possible. It was amazing the speed that all of us were able to construct this deck,” Remy said.

WOW and CCICC share a mission of fostering accessibility through prioritizing safety. With an appreciation for the outdoors being a part of Colorado culture, both organizations are committed to ensuring these spaces remain accessible to everyone.

“We all jumped in and had no problem rebuilding it from the ground up. We had folks that were as old as 70 years old and we had folks as young as 12 years old who were participating in this. All of the things were done to make sure that it wasn’t just a safe deck, but that was code compliant,” Remy said.

The PDU would like to extend a heartfelt 'Thank You' to all of the volunteers for spending the day to help complete the WOW Boardwalk project. Your efforts and time spent to help make exploring wilderness in Colorado not only safer and enjoyable, but also accessible is appreciated!
