FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Colorado Office of School Safety (OSS), an office of the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS), has been selected as a 2026 recipient of Children’s Hospital Colorado (Children’s Colorado)’s inaugural Community Health Impact Partner Award. The OSS was among four local groups chosen for the award in recognition of its important work in advancing mental health education, professional development, and destigmatization efforts within the community and supporting the goals and objectives outlined in the hospital’s Community Health Implementation Strategy (CHIS).
This new award was created to honor valued community partners whose collaboration, leadership, and commitment have been instrumental in advancing Children’s Colorado’s community health efforts. It recognizes partners who move beyond participation to true partnership; helping translate shared goals into meaningful, measurable impact that improves health outcomes and advances health equity in the communities we serve.
The nomination and review process was managed internally by Children’s Colorado leaders who collaborate directly with community partners in implementation efforts. Recipients are selected based on factors including demonstrated impact on identified community health goals and objectives, strength and consistency of partnership and collaboration, contributions to advancing health equity and community well-being, innovation, leadership, or sustained engagement in implementation efforts and alignment with organizational mission and community health goals.
“Children’s Hospital Colorado is deeply grateful for the collaboration we have forged with the Colorado Office of School Safety, and their partnership has made a meaningful impact in the way we serve children in the Denver metro region, and beyond,” said Susan Goldenstein, director of community impact at Children’s Colorado. “Partnerships like this help to propel long-term change as we continue evolving to meet the needs of our youth.”
“It is an honor to receive this recognition on behalf of the Colorado Office of School Safety and the dedicated professionals who work every day to support students, educators, families and communities across our state. Keeping Colorado’s kids safe is more than a responsibility, it is a shared commitment that allows our youth to grow, learn and thrive in their environments,” said Christine Harms, Director of the Office of School Safety. “This award reflects the importance of collaboration among schools, public safety partners, health care providers and communities as we continue advancing our common goal of ensuring every Colorado child has the opportunity to succeed in a safe atmosphere."
