What is it Wednesday reveal!!

Those eggs are from an American Kestrel!

American Kestrels are the smallest falcon in North America. They are known for their amazing ability to hover mid-air while hunting their favorite foods like mice and grasshoppers. Kestrels are secondary cavity nesters, meaning they need somewhere already safe to lay their eggs. They often use the hollows of trees, but with loss of habitat there are less places for them to use. To combat this, across the country, including in Lakewood Parks, people have installed nesting boxes specifically designed for these birds.

We are incredibly proud to share that Park Ranger Matt Bonano was recently honored at the police awards with a "Citation for Meritorious Service." Matt received this well-deserved recognition for his swift actions during an emergency medical situation on the greenbelt, where his vital assistance made all the difference.
