Fun event today with Mayor Wendi Strom and City of Lakewood, promoting rollout of neighborhood bikeways program, a low cost way to encourage bicycling and connect more routes on low traffic streets.

Got out on our bikes and cycled around some of our streets around O’Kane park. Fun!

With Jeffco Public Schools officially starting on Wednesday, August 19th, the Lakewood Police Department is reminding all drivers to slow down and stay alert in our school zones.

To help keep our students safe as they head back to class, we are asking everyone to watch their speed and always follow all posted speed limits. Please be alert for students by paying extra attention at crosswalks and being on the lookout for children walking to and from school. Additionally, remember to stop your vehicle when you see lights flashing on a school bus, and do not start driving again until the red lights have completely stopped flashing.

Let's work together to make this a safe and successful school year for everyone in the community!

♻️ Free recycling? Yes, please!
A new statewide program is making recycling services free for Colorado residents. To make sure Lakewood residents can take advantage of the program, City Council will discuss an update to the city’s waste hauler licensing requirements tonight, Monday, Aug. 24.
The proposed change would ensure waste haulers serving Lakewood participate in the new state program, allowing residents to receive recycling services at no cost.
👉 Learn more at https://lkwd.co/FreeRecycling, and tune in to tonight’s City Council meeting to follow the discussion.

Meet Lakewood’s new City Manager, Jonathan Cain!

Council plans to vote on his contract at our next meeting on 8/24 - I believe he’ll start/hit the ground running in October.

The Mayor and city council did a ton of due diligence over the last several weeks. We reviewed a great deal of information on the finalists, including an hour long interview with each, additional written questions, references, community and staff feedback, and more.

Jonathan blew us away with his passion, compassion, energy, vision, knowledge and work ethic. He’s lived in Lakewood, he loves Lakewood, and he’s ready to lead Lakewood.

He cares deeply about the people he works with and leads. He’s got a vision for how to revitalize some of Lakewood’s key corridors, and how to make housing in this city more affordable. He’s done his homework.

Perhaps most importantly, I see in him a unique capacity for thoughtful change management - which I see as critical in this role, and for our next steps as a city.

I’m really excited to write Lakewood’s next chapter, with Jonathan as our city manager! 👏 Thank you to the staff and the community for all your thoughtful input throughout this process 🙏

Lakewood City Council has announced it has selected Jonathan Cain as the city’s new city manager.

Cain impressed City Council with his dedication to the community and his ability to bring people together to build consensus. He showed he already has in-depth knowledge of numerous Lakewood issues and that he will prioritize building relationships, meeting people where they are and working with the community.
