With school starting today for many students, remember that the Lakeville Public Library provides free access to language learning. . .no subscription fees or intrusive advertisements! Just download the Mango Languages app from the link on our website (scroll past "Museum Passes" to "Digital Resources" to find the colorful Mango logo). You will need a Lakeville Library card to set up an account.

Along with lessons in Spanish and French, Mango offers instruction in German, Italian, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese). . .more than 70 languages overall. English majors can even brush up on their Shakespearean English before they tackle the Bard in class!

Family profiles allow parents and caregivers to keep an eye on a child's progress. And lessons can be done from a computer or mobile device, making it easy to squeeze a lesson in between soccer practice and dinner or on the drive to piano lessons.

Questions? Stop by the Library, and we will help get you started.

We hope you can attend the public reception on Monday, September 14 from 5:30-7:30!

New feature in the Libby App!

The SAILS library system has a reciprocal lending partnership with every other Massachusetts library system in the Libby App. That means that Lakeville library card holders using Libby can borrow not only from SAILS but also from the other systems in the state. . .all for free!

Up until recently, adding these systems was a manual process with users needing to add each system one by one. With several systems to add, this step could take a bit of time.

But starting now, Libby will automatically include ALL of the Massachusetts library partners in a search for material. No need to add them--they will appear right in the app!

Libby will then show the best availability for titles from all of the partner libraries and will allow users to pick the system that has the shortest wait time for items that have a holds list.

As with any change, it may take a little getting used to how Libby presents these partner libraries, so if you have any questions or run into issues, please come by the Lakeville Public Library for help.

Things are starting to wind down for the summer as we reach the end of August. If you'd like to see the amazing art that is part of Book, Art, & Blooms VII, stop by the Great Ponds Gallery by Thursday, and if your child wants to finish up their Summer Reading necklace, please come collect beads by Saturday.

Monday at 6:00pm, a new group will begin meeting monthly to play American Mahjong. Like our weekly cribbage group, this will not be led by Library staffers, but we invite anyone interested in playing to stop by. Please note that this is not instructional, so some game experience is required.

Tuesday at 6:30, the Novel Teas Book Club will meet to discuss The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. Rumor has it that there will be some trivia to go along with the talk!

Workshops for Retirement will be here on Thursday at 6:00 to review "Medicare for Retirees". Understanding Medicare can be difficult: Get professional guidance on potentially reducing your Medicare costs by choosing the right plan. Please register via our website calendar though walk-ins are welcome too.

Just a reminder: Labor Day falls on September 7 this year. The Library will be closed that entire weekend (Friday-Monday), so please plan ahead to pick up any library materials.

Looking to play American Mahjong with others? The Lakeville Public Library will host players on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:00pm. The first gathering will be this Monday, August 24.

Much like the weekly cribbage games and our informal knitting group, this open play time will not be run by Library staff and is dependent on players to keep this monthly event on the Library calendar. But, as interest in American Mahjong has grown in recent years, this could be a great way for regular players to get together with others who also enjoy the game.
