Death, taxes, and mulch fires when conditions get dry...

Lakeville Fire Department responded to a smoking mulch bed at a 55+ multi-family residence on Main Street today. Fortunately, the fire was discovered before it spread to the building.

The most common cause of mulch fires is the careless disposal of ci******es and other smoking materials. During hot, dry weather, mulch can also smolder for hours and then spread fire rapidly.

Property owners should ensure mulch is kept at least 18 inches away from combustible siding, decks, and other building components, particularly at public buildings and locations frequently visited by guests.

Mulch fires may seem minor, but they can quickly extend to a structure and become a tragic and costly fire.

Building Evacuated Due to Smoke

The Lakeville Fire Department responded to 30 Riverside Drive just before 10:00 a.m. this morning for a report of smoke inside the building.

The facility houses multiple businesses and government agencies, including federal and state offices.

At the time of the incident, Engine 2 and Ambulance 2 were conducting evacuation drills at Assawompset Elementary School and responded directly from that location. Tower Ladder 1 responded from the station with recalled firefighters.

Upon arrival, crews investigated and determined the source of the smoke to be a malfunctioning rooftop HVAC unit. Firefighters isolated the unit and ventilated the building until air quality conditions were confirmed to be safe.

The building was safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Annual Town Meeting is Tonight

Town Meeting is one of the most important forms of local government. Decisions made tonight will impact municipal services, schools, public safety, and the future direction of our community.

We encourage all registered voters to attend and make their voices heard.

The Lakeville Fire Department would also like to thank Lakeville Career Firefighters - Local 3188 for donating their personal time and privately owned vehicles to assist residents who may need transportation to and from Town Meeting. Their willingness to support civic participation and help neighbors access the democratic process is greatly appreciated.

Water Rescue Readiness

The Lakeville Fire Department conducted its annual water rescue refresher training yesterday.

Water rescue incidents are low-frequency, high-risk events that demand specialized skills, extensive resources, and close coordination among multiple agencies. These operations require seamless teamwork between the Lakeville Fire Department, Lakeville Police Department, and our mutual aid partners.

Maintaining proficiency through regular training is essential to ensuring responder safety and improving outcomes for those in need of rescue.

Great work by all of our members who participated in this important training.

Special thanks to the Clark Shores Association for graciously allowing access to the water from their property.

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you."

— General Dwight D. Eisenhower

82 years ago today our greatest generation initiated the largest amphibious landing in history.

156,000 allied troops made the landing. Nearly 15,000 of them would be killed or wounded.
