🚨POLICE BLOTTER AUG 29-SEP 5🚨

• Officers took a fraud report after a resident discovered an unauthorized wire transfer from their checking account, resulting in an $18,000 loss. A reminder to regularly monitor your accounts for unfamiliar activity and contact your bank immediately if something doesn’t look right.

• Officers stopped a vehicle traveling 90 mph and found the driver did not have a license. The driver was cited for speeding and careless driving, while three passengers were cited for seatbelt violations.

• Officers responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash after the driver took a motorcycle they had been rebuilding out for a test drive. During the ride, the front tire went flat, resulting in nearly 100 feet of skid marks before the motorcycle crashed. The driver sustained a head injury and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

• Officers took a theft report after a purse was stolen from an unlocked vehicle at 16### Kenyon Ave. A reminder to lock your vehicle and take valuables with you, even if you’re only stepping away for a short time.

• Officers stopped a vehicle traveling without headlights or taillights and observed signs that the driver may have been impaired by cannabis. After completing standard field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested on suspicion of DWI. A search warrant was obtained, and a blood draw was completed. The driver was later released to a sober party pending lab results.

• Officers initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation and watched as the driver and passenger attempted the old “switcheroo.” Unfortunately for them, officers saw the whole thing. The driver was cited for no driver’s license, and the passenger was cited for permitting an offense by another.

• Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and lane use violations. The driver showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed a .18 BrAC. The driver was arrested and transported to jail.

• Officers took a scam report after an elderly resident received a call claiming his granddaughter had been arrested. He was transferred to a supposed “jailor” who instructed him to mail $9,300 in cash for her bail. Unfortunately, he followed the instructions and still believed his granddaughter had been in custody afterward. A reminder that law enforcement will never call demanding payment for bail.

• Officers took a theft report after a wallet was stolen from a vehicle on 7### 185th St W. The victim had placed the wallet under the front seat but returned to find it missing. A reminder to always lock your vehicle and take your personal items with you.

Lakeville Police Investigating Shooting Incident

Case Number: LA260037181

Lakeville, Minn. — On September 6, 2026, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Lakeville Police responded to a 911 call for service in the 16200 block of Flagstaff Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency care was administered by initial responding officers, along with members of the Lakeville Fire Department and Allina Health EMS. The male was transported by ground ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center. We’ve since learned the male did not survive his injuries.

The Lakeville Police Department is currently in the initial stages of an investigation, which includes what led up to the incident and how the male’s injuries were inflicted. Due to the early stages of the investigation, there is limited information to release currently. At this time, there is no information suggesting any threat to the public. There is no one currently in custody related to this incident.

🚔POLICE BLOTTER AUG 23-29🚔

• Officers took a fraud report after a victim was scammed out of $32,000 by someone they believed was calling from their bank. The victim was asked to “verify” transactions and provided a two factor authentication code, giving the scammer access to the account. A reminder to never provide passwords, verification codes, or other personal information to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

• Officers took another fraud report after a victim met someone through an online dating app who claimed to work for a rare gemstone company. Over time, the scammer convinced the victim to send numerous checks totaling more than $27,000. Unfortunately, the connection turned out to be anything but genuine. The investigation is ongoing and serves as a reminder to be cautious when someone you meet online begins asking for money.

• Officers took a fraud report after a victim was contacted by someone posing as a deputy and convinced to withdraw several thousand dollars from their bank account as part of a bail scam. The victim sent $1,500 through a mobile payment platform before realizing the “deputy” was a scammer. The investigation is ongoing and serves as a reminder that law enforcement will never call demanding payment for bail.

• Officers responded to a driving complaint involving a vehicle reportedly all over the road. Officers located the vehicle and found the driver showing signs of impairment, along with open containers inside the vehicle. A DMT test showed a result of .20 BrAC. The driver was arrested and transported to the Dakota County Jail for 3rd Degree DWI.

• Officers responded to a report of a male causing a disturbance and damaging property on 20### Keokuk Ave. A suspect description and license plate helped officers locate the vehicle and identify the individual involved. The suspect denied the incident, but surveillance footage told a different story and he was cited.

• Officers responded to a medical call after an adult female fell out of a truck in a parking lot and sustained a head injury. Officers arrived to find the female intoxicated and bleeding from the injury. She was evaluated at the scene and transported to HCMC for further treatment.

• Officers were alerted to a slumper in a hotel parking lot and made contact with the driver, who initially had some difficulty rolling down the window. Officers observed signs of impairment, and the driver performed poorly on the standard field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed a BrAC of .21, more than two and a half times the legal limit. The driver was arrested for 2nd Degree DWI.

• Multiple officers responded to 18### Kenrick Ave for a theft where to suspects took off on foot after loss prevention tried to make contact. Surveillance is being reviewed to ID the suspects.

After 20 years of dedicated service to the Lakeville community, Officer Shawn McMahon is officially retiring!

A proud Marine and dedicated police officer, Shawn has spent his career serving others and making a lasting impact on our department and community. Throughout his time with LPD, he has taken on several specialized roles, including serving as a DCSOT Operator, CTOS Instructor, and Fi****ms and Defensive Tactics Instructor, sharing his knowledge and experience with officers throughout his career.
