Kota Connections has been passionately serving adults with disabilities since 1992. The goal of Kota Connections is to improve the lives of adults with disabilities. We provide services for adults in the community in both Residential and Employment services. We take a person-centered approach and let the clients guide the services they receive.
When we assist clients with Employment, there are three areas that we work in. Employment Exploration is for clients who want to find out the right jobs that they are interested in. Employment Development is used to help clients search for, apply for, and interview for jobs. When hired we can also use this service to assist with the on boarding training. Employment Support is used to help clients maintain their jobs into the future. At Kota Connections, we are not able to provide long term supports on the job. We use a system of check in’s and contacts with management, families, and clients to maintain open lines of communication in an attempt to ease any issues that arise at a job. We have been very successful with this model in finding and maintaining jobs with our clients.
We have a broad array of Residential Services that we provide. The most well-known aspect of Kota Connections is our activity calendar. We offer many community activities each week to allow clients to get into the community. We typically have anywhere between 20 and 30 activities in any given month. Due to COVID-19, these activities have turned to virtual setting. However, we are still offering many activities. In person outings are still happening, however they are now with only one staff and one client at a time. We also provide Apartment checks for clients who live on their own. Our model for apartment checks is that all our staff work with all our clients. Therefore, we do not assign one staff to check in on any one client. Our apartment checks also only last between 15 and 30 minutes unless the client is going grocery shopping (shopping typically takes 1 hour). We do not have staff to help with Activities of Daily Living and our staff provide more of a reminder, check in degree of support. We will not make our clients do anything as they have the right to refuse anything we ask them to. We will document their refusal and keep going on with the check. We can also assist clients in Medical Appointment management. It can be difficult when to schedule annual appointments and we assist in remembering to do that as well as transportation if needed. We also keep the paperwork in their client file if they are needed in the future.
At Kota Connections, we love our job. Not because of the paycheck or the act of being employed. We love our job because of the people we serve.
