Today, members of the Lakeville Police Department Dive Team conducted an ice dive training exercise on Loon Pond. As winter begins to wind down, our divers continue to take advantage of the remaining ice conditions to train before the ice fully melts.

Training in these challenging conditions helps ensure our team remains prepared to respond to water-related emergencies year-round.

Today’s training was conducted in partnership with the New Bedford Police Department, Taunton Police Department, and the SEMLEC Dive Team. Working together during exercises like this strengthens regional cooperation and helps ensure our teams can respond seamlessly during critical incidents.

Great work by everyone involved and thank you to our regional partners for the continued collaboration. 🤿

Lakeville Police Department Awarded State Grant to Upgrade Body-Worn Camera Program

LAKEVILLE — The Lakeville Police Department has been awarded a $65,989 grant through the Healey-Driscoll Administration as part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Body-Worn Camera Grant Program, providing funding to upgrade and expand the department’s existing body-worn camera system.

The department has utilized body-worn cameras since 2013 and completed full deployment across the agency in 2021 following a previous round of grant funding.

The new award will allow the department to replace its current Motorola WatchGuard VISTA cameras, which have reached the end of their support lifecycle, with upgraded Motorola V700 body-worn cameras.

"This funding allows us to upgrade and expand our existing body-worn camera program with equipment that meets today’s standards," said Chief Matthew Perkins. "I want to thank Lt. Ryan Maltais for his work enhancing our program and securing this competitive grant, and I also thank the Healey-Driscoll Administration for recognizing the importance of this investment."

A collective bargaining agreement related to body-worn camera use was implemented in 2021. The department also maintains a comprehensive policy governing the use of body-worn cameras.

Statewide, the Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded nearly $3.5 million to 32 municipal police departments to implement new body-worn camera programs or expand existing ones. The grant program is administered through the Office of Grants and Research and supports the establishment or expansion of body-worn camera initiatives designed to enhance officer safety, reinforce public trust and improve overall community safety.

The Law Enforcement Body-Worn Camera Program was established in 2022 and has distributed nearly $13 million statewide to support municipal agencies.

“Body-worn cameras help establish clear, consistent standards for policing across Massachusetts,” said Gov. Maura Healey. “This investment supports professionalism and accountability statewide and helps police departments build trust with their communities.”

The Lakeville Police Department expects to deploy the new cameras by the fall.

Lakeville Police Detective Leads Multi-State Investigation Into Regional V**e Shop Theft Ring

LAKEVILLE — A Lakeville Police detective has led a regional investigation that connected a series of v**e shop break-ins across Massachusetts and neighboring states and disrupted an organized theft ring linked to stolen vehicles.

Detective Robert Schiffer coordinated a multi-agency effort that tied two break-ins at a v**e shop at 12 Harding St. to a broader pattern of organized theft in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

The first break-in occurred on Dec. 5, 2025, when suspects used a stolen vehicle to force entry into the business during the early morning hours. Thousands of dollars in merchandise and cash were stolen, and the building sustained extensive damage.

A second break-in, using similar methods and involving many of the same suspects, occurred on Dec. 13, 2025. In both incidents, stolen Hyundai and Kia vehicles were used.

Through an investigation, including surveillance video review, intelligence sharing and the ex*****on of multiple search warrants, Detective Schiffer identified the suspects as being part of an organized group responsible for repeated v**e shop break-ins, often targeting multiple locations in a single night.

The investigation linked incidents in Lakeville, Taunton, Acton, Bellingham, Saugus, Oxford, Waltham, Revere, Burrillville and Johnston, R.I., and East Hartford. Conn., among others. Police recovered multiple stolen motor vehicles, approximately $11,000 in stolen merchandise, and key evidence linking suspects to the break-ins.

As a result of the investigation, one suspect, JOKARI FUQUAY-RIOS, AGE 19, of CHELSEA, was arraigned on Thursday, Jan. 29, in Wareham District Court and is currently being held without bail until a pre-trial conference on Feb. 25.

Arrest warrants and criminal complaints have been sought for additional suspects.

Lakeville Police worked in coordination with regional and state partners throughout the investigation, collaborating with detectives and officers from multiple agencies, including Taunton, Acton, Saugus, Cambridge, Boston, Waltham, and Revere police departments, the Massachusetts State Police, the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services, Burrillville, Johnston, and East Hartford police, along with regional intelligence partners from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. (SEMLEC)

“This investigation would not have been possible without regional cooperation and the dedication of motivated detectives who all wanted the same outcome,” said Detective Schiffer. “Everyone involved worked together, shared information, and stayed focused on holding those responsible accountable.”

The investigation remains active and additional charges are expected. One suspect remains outstanding and is described as a Hispanic female, approximately five feet tall, believed to be from the Boston or Revere area.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lakeville Police Department at 508-947-4422.

These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
