Winter Heat Safety
🔥 Heater safety basics
Keep space around heaters clear (3 ft rule). No blankets, curtains, papers, furniture.
Turn portable heaters off when sleeping or leaving. Biggest fire-prevention habit.

🕯️ Carbon monoxide (CO) safety — super important
Have CO detectors on every level (and near bedrooms)
Change batteries regularly
Never run grills, generators or gas heaters indoors or in garages — even cracked doors aren’t safe.
If alarm sounds + headache/dizziness → get outside and call for help

🏠 Furnace + fireplace care
Annual furnace and wood burning fireplace inspections
Keep vents clear of snow/leaves

Fireplace:
Use a screen or glass door
Dispose ashes in a metal container outside (they stay hot longer than you think)
