Today (5/20), Sharp Grossmont Hospital recognized the outstanding work of our firefighter/paramedic crews with a STEMI award for exceptional cardiac care performance.

Firefighter/Paramedics Jordan Van Ommering and Thomas Achenbach, along with Shelby from Central Dispatch, were honored for their coordinated efforts in rapidly identifying and transporting a STEMI patient to the cath lab. Their teamwork helped achieve an incredible door-to-procedure time of just 39 minutes, the fastest for the month of April.

This recognition highlights the strength of our prehospital care, dispatch coordination, and hospital partnership, where every second truly matters in saving heart muscle and improving patient outcomes.

Great work by all involved in delivering timely, high quality care when it mattered most.

This evening, Engine 26 responded to reports of arcing wires in the Flinn Springs area. Upon arrival, crews discovered the surrounding neighborhood was without power, and with the sun setting, the Little League fields were about to go dark in the middle of the game.

While awaiting the arrival of SDG&E, Rescue 3 was brought over to light the ballfields so the kids could finish their baseball game under the lights.

Even while supporting the community at the fields, Rescue 3 remained fully available to respond to emergency incidents if needed.

Sometimes serving the community means more than emergency response, it means making sure the game can go on.

What an amazing day at our Pancake Breakfast!

Seeing our station filled with families, friends, and community members made this event truly special. From station tours and learning CPR, to checking out the fire apparatus, talking with firefighters, and face painting for the kids, it was a day full of great memories and community connection.

We want to sincerely thank everyone who came out and supported us. Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to serve such an incredible community. Your support means more to us than you know.

If you were there, tag us in your stories and posts, we’d love to see the day through your eyes and share some of your favorite moments!

Today we welcomed our newest unit, Patrol 2, a Type 6 fire apparatus, with a traditional push-in ceremony.

This addition strengthens our wildland firefighting capability, giving us a more agile resource to access hard-to-reach areas and stop fires early before they can threaten our community.

This acquisition was made possible through the incredible support of the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation, with funding provided by the San Diego River Conservancy. We are grateful for their investment in public safety and our community.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day.

It’s a day to recognize the men and women around the world who answer the call no matter the time, the conditions, or the risk. It’s also a day to remember those who didn’t make it home.

The fire service is built on tradition, sacrifice, and a shared commitment to something bigger than ourselves. We are honored to be part of that brotherhood and sisterhood.

Earlier this morning (2/5/26), Lakeside Fire Protection District crews responded to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into an apartment building.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that a vehicle had driven into an occupied apartment unit and then backed into a second unit. Crews quickly located and safely rescued one occupant from inside the apartment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters utilized the District’s new Rescue 3 to shore and stabilize the damaged structure, helping ensure the safety of residents and preventing further structural compromise.
