Whoโ€™s in the Harbor?

Our weekly birdwatching program overlooking Middle Harbor witnessed an exciting storm roll in last night!

Watch our stories to see a group of Mallard ducklings brave the storm with their momma.

Today we helped two snapping turtles cross the causeway road.

A great reminder to SLOW DOWN and watch for wildlife in and out side of the park.

A few larger snapping turtles were not so lucky just outside the park. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Guidelines for moving snapping turtles:
- always move the turtle to the side of the road it is facing.
- do not relocate the turtle to a โ€œbetterโ€ pond, these turtles have instincts - relocating them decreases their chances of survival.
- NEVER pick up a snapping turtle by its tail, this can severely damage their spine.

You may be asking yourself,
"what do I do if I see a baby animal left alone in my yard?" (Great question by the way).

Here are some things you need to know:

- Wildlife parents often leave their nest or young in a location they consider safe while they forage or hunt nearby.

- A parent is almost always nearby and will come back as needed to feed and care for them.

- The best thing for you to do is keep your distance (and be proud that your yard feels safe for wildlife!)

For this , we're talking about Ohio's cutest residents - the ones you may see curled up in your backyard around this time of year๐ŸฆŒ
