LOCAL EMERGENCY PROCLAIMED IN RESPONSE TO LUCAS FIRE;
JOINT INFORMATION CENTER ESTABLISHED

Lake County continues to coordinate a multi-agency response to the Lucas Fire, which is burning near the Lake and Mendocino County line and affecting the Mendocino National Forest and Bachelor Valley area of Upper Lake.
Lake County Sheriff Luke Bingham, serving as the County’s Director of Emergency Services, proclaimed a Local Emergency in response to the Lucas Fire. The proclamation was ratified by the Lake County Board of Supervisors on September 11, 2026.
The Local Emergency proclamation supports the County’s ongoing response and coordination efforts and may open additional support opportunities to address impacts associated with the incident.
The Lake County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated, with County departments and response partners coordinating resources, monitoring changing conditions, and supporting affected communities.
A Joint Information Center (JIC) has also been established to coordinate public information related to the incident. Public information representatives from CAL FIRE, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office are working together to provide timely and consistent information to the public as conditions change.
LUCAS FIRE
The Lucas Fire remains active. Fire suppression operations are ongoing, and residents should expect continued activity from firefighting personnel, law enforcement, and other responding agencies throughout the affected area.
Residents should use caution around the incident and avoid unnecessary travel in areas under an Evacuation Warning. Areas under an Evacuation Order remain closed, and residents should not attempt to re-enter until officials determine it is safe to do so.
CAL FIRE UPDATE
Acreage has been mapped at 3,476 and is at 10% containment. Resources will continue working overnight to gain additional containment and strengthen suppression efforts.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
• Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15) is a time to celebrate Hispanic and Latino culture and history.
• It also offers an opportunity to address the disproportionate to***co-related health challenges faced by many in this community.
• Historically, to***co companies targeted Hispanic and Latino populations in the 1970s–80s, sponsoring cultural and sporting events and contributing to political action committees. This targeted marketing has led to the highest levels of to***co ad exposure among youth compared to Black and White youth.

State Advisory Issued for Lake Pillsbury Due to Harmful Algal Bloom

LAKE COUNTY, CA (September 1, 2026) – Lake County Health Services is notifying residents and visitors of a DANGER advisory recommended by the California State Water Resources Control Board for Lake Pillsbury following State testing that identified elevated levels of cyanobacteria and associated toxins consistent with a harmful algal bloom.
Based on the State’s findings and guidance, people and pets are advised to stay out of the water at Lake Pillsbury until further notice.
As part of a pre-Labor Day assessment, State Water Resources Control Board staff collected a water sample at Lake Pillsbury Resort on August 24, 2026. According to results provided to Lake County Health Services, the sample contained high concentrations of cyanobacteria. Testing also detected microcystins/nodularins at 23.84 micrograms per liter (µg/L), exceeding the State’s threshold for a DANGER advisory.
State staff also reported observing visible cyanobacterial blooms at Lake Pillsbury Resort and Pine Point. Recent satellite imagery has indicated cyanobacteria at multiple locations throughout the lake.
In accordance with the State’s recommendation, the public should:
• Stay out of the water and keep children and pets out of the water.
• Avoid contact with algae, scum, foam, or discolored water.
• Do not allow pets to drink lake water or eat algae or material along the shoreline.
• Do not drink untreated lake water or use it for cooking. Boiling does not remove cyanotoxins and may concentrate them.
Follow all posted DANGER signs and State recreational water guidance.
Lake County Health Services is sharing this information to ensure the public is aware of the State’s findings and recommended precautions ahead of the Labor Day holiday. DANGER advisory signs are expected to be posted at appropriate locations around the lake, and the State Water Board will be notifying appropriate drinking water officials due to a drinking water intake near the sampling location.
