One Pawsome Day! 🐶

Sergeant Skillman, K9 Officers Collins and Rethwisch stopped by Excel Christian Academy to visit these adorable preschoolers!

The little ones had just finished learning all about community helpers, so they got to meet two very special helpers, K9s Kodiak and Dean!

The students learned about what police K9s do and enjoyed watching a quick demonstration from each of our four-legged partners.

Lots of smiles, wagging tails, and maybe a few new K9 fans were made today!

Books, Badges & School Supplies 📚

Our Neighborhood Liaison Officers had a great time reading with this group of preschoolers! The Lakeland Police Department is proud to be part of the Polk Heroes Literacy Program and sharing stories with the children at Hadley’s Early Education Preschool.

This month was extra special thanks to the Early Learning Coalition of Polk County, who donated these awesome bags filled with school supplies to help students start the new school year off right!

We’re grateful for partnerships like these that help our community’s youngest learners feel supported and ready to learn! 💙

🚨Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree

On August 14, 2026, shortly after 11:00 p.m. Lakeland Police officers responded to a shooting at a residence in the Westgate area of Lakeland. An unknown suspect shot into a side bedroom window of the residence, striking two of the six people inside. Three of the six inside were young children who fortunately were not injured. The two adult victims were transported to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

One of the victims felt it could be Treveon Raggs, who had made threats recently. Through a thorough investigation, detectives found surveillance video depicting a suspect, later identified as Raggs, arriving and leaving the scene in a vehicle.

Electronic evidence and surveillance camera footage provided detectives with enough evidence to secure the arrest warrant. Raggs was taken into custody at a residence in the Winter Haven area on the afternoon of August 24, 2026. Raggs charges are as follows:

Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree (6 counts)
Shooting into an Occupied Building
Discharge of a Firearm in a Residential Area
Aggravated Stalking After Court-Imposed Order
Written Threats to Kill or Injure
Violation of Pretrial Release Conditions
Unlawful Use of a 2-Way Communication Device
Armed Trespass
Child Abuse without Great Bodily Harm

Great teamwork by our responding Uniform Patrol Officers, Forensic Services Specialists and Criminal Investigations Detectives who serve our community with great passion for justice.
