Hey Lakehurst! My name is Crystal Parker and I am currently running as a Write-In Candidate for Lakehurst Mayor. Iโd like to introduce myself to those who may not know me already. To those that already do, you know Iโm an open book so this post may get a little lengthy but Iโll try to keep it short! ๐คญ
My husband and I bought our old 1870 house back in 2009 and have since turned our fixer upper into a home for our 2 children and a few fur babies. Between the 4 of us we are very involved in our local Cub Scout Pack, Girl Scout Troop, Fire Department, and Church in town. I personally LOVE living in little old Lakehurst, the fact that everything is within walking distance, we have a beautiful lake, small school district, and so many small businesses and churches spread throughout! I love that Lakehurst isnโt just a neighborhood, itโs a community.
I graduated from Rider University with a bachelors degree in both Finance and Accounting. I have over 20 years of customer service experience with the last 7 being in banking. Iโm currently a โSoccer Momโ and serve as Treasurer and a Den Leader for my sonโs Cub Scout Pack. I also love volunteering in different roles at Proving Ground Church including production, and posting to their social media and website. I have also been doing the book keeping for my husbandโs small business for the last 11 years.
I never really liked politicsโฆ at this point in time, I wonโt affiliate myself with a specific political party because frankly they both make me cringe ๐ฌ When I saw that our local elected positions were all uncontested, I thought residents should at least have a choice! I felt the need to serve my community in a bigger way and decided to run as a write-in candidate. Iโm aware that I probably have no idea what Iโm getting myself into but I also had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided to become a homeowner, and again when I decided to become a mother (and I think I do a decent job there!) I have faith that I would also make a great mayor even though there will be plenty of unforeseen challenges along the way.
Although I canโt promise any specific changes without the support of our council, I know my love for Lakehurst, itโs residents, and businesses will show through my position as mayor. I can promise to be an active listener to our residentโs needs, encourage others to attend council meetings and volunteer, and to share my ideas to continue making Lakehurst a great place to live and do business in.
