News release: LITH police join statewide campaign targeting unsafe driving

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL (Aug. 28, 2026) — The Lake in the Hills Police Department has joined the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies across the state for a Labor Day traffic safety effort that runs now through Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Motorists in Lake in the Hills can expect increased patrols that enforce the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” statewide campaigns. Officers are focused on halting impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving practices.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or any other drug is a risky behavior that puts lives in jeopardy,” said Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees the local enforcement program. “It’s never worth it.”

Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle – front seat or back – should be properly buckled on every trip.

“In addition to enforcing traffic laws, this is an educational campaign to prevent tragedies on the road before they can happen,” Miller said. “It’s all about saving lives. We appreciate our community’s involvement, especially during the upcoming holiday weekend when making responsible plans can make all the difference.”

The impaired driving enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For information on safe driving practices, visit itsnotagameillinois.com.

On August 22nd, our newest police officer candidates took an important step toward joining the Lake in the Hills Police Department by completing the police officer written examination and participating in interviews with our department.

We want to thank everyone who attended and took the time to pursue a career serving our community. Your interest in becoming part of our team is greatly appreciated.
