Outdoor Warning Siren Update

The Village has recently upgraded its outdoor warning sirens to be linked to National Weather Service Alerts (NWS). The sirens are automatically activated when the predicted storm path includes a mapped polygon that includes the Village of Lake Zurich and the Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District. Using GIS mapping, alerts that pose imminent or likely weather related threats to life and property cause sirens to sound. Hearing a siren means you should immediately take protective measures and check local media for emergency information.

Sirens are activated when the National Weather Service issues the following alerts:

Severe & damaging winds
Tornado warning

Please remember that there is no "all clear" signal. Hearing the siren a second time would be related to a new or updated National Weather Service alert.

You may hear neighboring community's sirens and wonder why Lake Zurich sirens are not activated. NWS alerts outside of the Lake Zurich area polygon do not sound our sirens. This is by design to try and combat "warning fatigue" where people fail to respond to warnings after receiving too many.

Among other items on the agenda at the Monday, June 15, 2026 in-person meeting of the Village Board starting at 7 pm at Village Hall are:

Public Hearing and Consideration of Annexation and Development Request for 911 North Rand Road (Advocate Outpatient Center)
This agenda item includes a public hearing and consideration of multiple approvals related to the proposed annexation and development of approximately 5 acres of property located at 911 North Rand Road, currently in unincorporated Lake County. The applicant, Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation, is seeking approval of an annexation agreement, annexation of the subject property, rezoning to the B-1 Local and Community Business District, and Planned Unit Development (PUD) approval with a concurrent Development Concept and Final Plan for the construction of a 12,500-square-foot outpatient medical facility.
The proposed development, to be known as the Advocate Outpatient Center, will provide primary care, immediate care, laboratory, and limited imaging services within a one-story facility. The site plan includes parking, access improvements, stormwater management, landscaping, and provisions for future expansion.

Ordinance Approving Seven Easement Acquisition Agreements for the Lake Michigan Water Project
The Lake Michigan Water Project requires easement acquisitions to facilitate the installation of water mains. On February 17, 2026, the Village Board approved Ordinance 2026-02-652, providing the Village with the legal authority to acquire property for use as both permanent and temporary easements.
On June 5, 2026, representatives of the Village, the project team, including Mayor Poynton, negotiated seven voluntary easement agreements with private property owners. The agreements have been reviewed by the project’s attorney and Richard Friedman of Neal & Leroy, LLC.

This meeting at Village Hall is available online through Facebook Live, YouTube Live, the Village Website and on local cable channels.
