Congratulations to North High senior Michael Lyakhov and South High juniors Austin Jin and Taisheng Wu for representing GNPS at the 2026 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the world's largest international science competition for high school students!
Qualifying for ISEF is an incredible achievement within itself. During the week-long competition, our students showcased their research alongside more than 1,700 of the brightest young scientists from 60+ countries, regions and territories.
Michael Lyakhov earned a Second Place Grand Award in Behavioral and Social Sciences for his research, "Early Diagnosis of Schizophrenia Through an Interpretable CNN–Transformer Model of fMRI Connectivity.”
Austin Jin received a Third Place Grand Award in Translational Medical Science and was awarded the Non-Trivial Fellowship Scholarship for his research, "M-CATCH: A Multiplex Microparticle CRISPR Assay for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Drug Resistance Characterization.”
Taisheng Wu presented his research, “BrainAGE-CLIP: A Novel Computational Biomarker for Brain Aging in Mice,” in the field of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.
This morning, our high schools hosted a special breakfast to celebrate our Regeneron ISEF Finalists. Michael, Austin, and Taisheng were applauded by their families, science teachers, building principals, district administrators and Board of Education Vice President Joanne Chan. Congratulations!
