Congratulations to North High senior Michael Lyakhov and South High juniors Austin Jin and Taisheng Wu for representing GNPS at the 2026 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the world's largest international science competition for high school students!

Qualifying for ISEF is an incredible achievement within itself. During the week-long competition, our students showcased their research alongside more than 1,700 of the brightest young scientists from 60+ countries, regions and territories.

Michael Lyakhov earned a Second Place Grand Award in Behavioral and Social Sciences for his research, "Early Diagnosis of Schizophrenia Through an Interpretable CNN–Transformer Model of fMRI Connectivity.”

Austin Jin received a Third Place Grand Award in Translational Medical Science and was awarded the Non-Trivial Fellowship Scholarship for his research, "M-CATCH: A Multiplex Microparticle CRISPR Assay for Mycobacterium tuberculosis Drug Resistance Characterization.”

Taisheng Wu presented his research, “BrainAGE-CLIP: A Novel Computational Biomarker for Brain Aging in Mice,” in the field of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.

This morning, our high schools hosted a special breakfast to celebrate our Regeneron ISEF Finalists. Michael, Austin, and Taisheng were applauded by their families, science teachers, building principals, district administrators and Board of Education Vice President Joanne Chan. Congratulations!

Congratulations to our 2026 NASTAR Award recipient, Mrs. Kishinevsky! 🌟

Mrs. Kishinevsky, a kindergarten teacher at JFK Elementary, was presented with her award at the eighth annual Nassau Association of School Technologists (NASTECH) NASTAR Celebration. She was nominated by Dr. Lander, district director of technology, for her thoughtful balance of digital and non-digital learning activities — leaning on platforms like Seesaw to create engaging activities, IXL to provide individualized support, and Google Slides to create custom-made digital libraries.

The Nassau BOCES NASTECH Service created the Nassau Association of School Technologists Award Recipient (NASTAR) awards to honor individuals for innovation, leadership, and support of technology initiatives in their school district.

To commemorate the very first Pre-K cohort at John F. Kennedy Elementary, Pre-K students partnered with 5th graders for a special legacy project celebrating the unique bond between the youngest and oldest students in the JFK school community.

Together, each pair of students painted a beautiful rock, creating a lasting symbol of mentorship and growth. This legacy project will honor the journey our students take from their first day of school to their final year in elementary school. This is what makes our school community so special! 🦉

The South High Spring Theatre Production class welcomed Lakeville Elementary fourth graders for an original performance designed just for them!

The hour-long production, titled “Discovery!”, was entirely created by the high school students. Over the past several weeks, high schoolers collaborated under the leadership of SHS Theater Director Ms. Meredith to develop ideas for sketches, write the scripts, and rehearse the show both during class and at optional after-school rehearsals. Students also contributed behind-the-scenes by designing sound effects and creating props and costumes.

The play was a wonderful celebration of creativity and storytelling, making for a memorable day of theatre for both the performers and their young audience!

The Great Neck Board of Education recently presented plaques to the district’s inaugural Ex Officio Student Board members, Katie Leder and Maxwell Pour, in appreciation of their year of service on the school board.

Katie, a South High senior, and Max, a North High senior, were the first Great Neck students to serve in this capacity, sitting alongside elected Board trustees and offering student perspectives during public meetings.

The creation of ex officio student positions is encouraged by New York State as a way for students to gain first-hand experience with the decision-making process and learn the importance of civic engagement, collaboration, and leadership. Thank you to Katie and Max for your service to our school community!
