I talked to Mr. Jerry Peacock with DOTD for a little more clarification on the bridge closure. They are closing the bridge at this time, but it won't be officially closed with barricades and signs until tomorrow. It is the bridge over the Tensas Basin. Mr. Peacock says he believes they will begin working on repairing the problem as soon as possible, and that he doesn't look for the bridge to be closed no more than a week or so.

The sheriff’s office messenger through Facebook has been hacked. We try to answer messages that have viable questions but we do NOT send out mass messages to the public. If you have received such a message, please be aware that it did not come from us. Thank you for your patience as we try to clear this up.

UPDATE: Three inmates are now in custody, while five remain at large. The men and women of the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office continue to work around the clock – along with the assistance of several law enforcement agencies from across the region and troopers with the Louisiana State Police. (LSP).

I have asked LSP to now take the lead in the search for the remaining five dangerous escapees. The missing trio were pretrial inmates being housed in East Carroll. All that can be done to locate the missing five is being done at this time. In the interim, extra resources have been dedicated to the River Bend Detention Center while we all continue responding to this incident. We encourage residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318) 559-2800 or the Louisiana State Police, Troop F, at 318-345-0000.

East Carroll residents, I understand this has been a tough week for us all. From the intense cold, connectivity issues, power and water problems, we have all gotten this far thanks to first responder supporting first responder, neighbor helping neighbor, and everyone working together.

Your safety is our top priority, East Carroll. Every available resource has been deployed to ensure your safety. We are actively monitoring the area and coordinating with partner agencies.

Thank you to all deputies serving with the ECPSO. Under extraordinary circumstances, each and everyone of you has stood strong, giving all of your 110% each day.

Thank you.
Sheriff Wydette Williams

If you have been having problems with your AT&T phone or internet, it should be restored. AT&T has sent a generator and it restored the tower at around 2:40 pm. I appreciate the prompt handling of this problem.

We have received word from Entergy that they have run into far more problems than anticipated. They are in the parish on the ground working diligently, but they cannot commit to a definitive time and date when electrical services will be restored.
