When art and poetry collide.
Caitlin taught Lake Pleasant Central School's 8th grade art students how to write a golden shovel poem. Art teacher Robin Hausle showed the class how to collide their words with art. The theme was a quote by John Muir: "Between every two pine trees there is a door leading to a new way of life."

Today, we thanked our legislators for supporting New York State's Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Katie and Caitlin had the pleasure of meeting with assemblymembers and senators during NYACD Legislative Day. They shared information about Hamilton County SWCD's place based education, stream restoration projects, hazard mitigation program, and invasive species spread prevention. Legislators, thank you for your time and support, and for championing conservation!

Katie and Caitlin are at the Capital for Finger Lakes - Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance Legislative Day. It's wonderful to converse with our Assemblymembers and Senators about watershed quality, right sizing culverts, invasive species management, and educational outreach, core programs supported by FLLOWPA.

Check out our Shaw Brook Restoration Project video!

In the wake of the July 2023 storm event, partners came together to stabilize and protect the upper and lower reaches of Shaw Brook, private property, and local infrastructure. Outcomes include 1 appropriately sized 30-foot bridge, and 16 grade control structures within a 515 foot linear reach, and the creation of 23,000 square feet of flood plain. The total cost of the project was $750,000.
