The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the hiring of our first female road patrol Deputy. Deputy Sheriff Desiree Ross graduated on February 26, 2026, from the Mohawk Valley Police Academy located in Utica, New York. Deputy Ross successfully completed over one thousand hours of training and was required to pass multiple written and practical testing sessions which included the following fields of study:

Federal Law
New York State Penal Law
New York State Criminal Procedure Law
New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
New York State Division of Criminal Justice Basic Fi****ms Training and Qualifications
First Aid
Evidence Technician and Handling

Deputy Ross had proven herself as a valuable asset to the agency prior as she was transferred from the Corrections Division after being employed with same for several years prior.

Deputy Ross will be immediately assigned to the Criminal/Road Patrol Division.

The Emergency Order will be in effect from January 26, 2026 at 6:00 am to January 27, 2026 at 6:00 am.
There shall be no non-essential travel in Hamilton County and the County Office Building shall be closed to assure public safety and allow highway departments to plow effectively.

❄️❄️WINTER STORM WATCH❄️❄️
❄️Sheriff Abrams would like to remind everyone to check on their neighbors today through Monday. Plow trucks will be out throughout the duration of the storm. ❄️
❄️Issued By - NWS Albany NY
❄️What - For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, heavy lake effect
snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 4 to 8 inches under the most persistent bands. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 10 and 15 inches possible.
❄️Where - Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
❄️When - For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, until 7 PM EST this evening. For the Winter Storm Watch, from Sunday morning through Monday evening.
❄️Impacts - Travel could be very difficult within lake effect snow bands due to snow covered roads, reduced visibility, and blowing and drifting snow. Dangerous travel possible Sunday into Monday due to snow covered roadways.
❄️Additional Details - Lake effect snow bands will remain across northern Herkimer and Hamilton Counties through this afternoon before dropping south out of the warning area. In addition, a long duration winter storm is expected Sunday into Monday, which will result in snow covered roadways and reduced visibility.
❄️Summary - Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns.

Hamilton County, New York - On December 17, 2025, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Necia C. Franolich, 40 years of age of 711 Pattersonville Road, Patterson, NY for Forgery 2nd, a class D Felony. Franolich was also charged with Grand Larceny 4th, Misuse of Food Stamps, Welfare Fraud 5th, Forgery 3rd and Petit Larceny.
The defendant was arrest following a long-term investigation between the Sheriff's Office, Hamilton County Department of Social Services and Hamilton County District Attorney's Office into the fraudulent application and use of SNAP benefits and food stamps. The defendant was processed and released on an appearance ticket to return to Indian Lake Town Court.
