Library assistant, Lauren McGovern, set up our display to spotlight su***de prevention resources along with information about the upcoming Out of Darkness Walk in Lake Placid happening on Saturday, September 26th. Stop by to peruse the materials and pick up a number of freebies: lip balm, travel-sized tissue packs, stress balls, mints and more, all courtesy of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Because of a generous donation to the Northeast Chapter of the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention from Stuart & Miona Amoriell, owners of The Pickled Pig, you can enter to win a gift card to the restaurant while the display is up. Be sure to check it all out on our first floor/Main Street entrance from now until Wednesday, Sept. 23rd.

Open call for art submissions for our "Brilliant Midnight" community art show! All details below!

We want your art that showcases the light, dark, and shadows to bring our community together this winter. We welcome artists to submit paintings, photography, fiber art, sketches, collage/mixed media, and sculpture, but if you have something that isn’t on this list, please send it our way for consideration. The Lake Placid Public Library‘s community art show is just that–a place for varied creative voices in the depths of our North Country winter. Established and emerging artists are encouraged to submit their work.

To submit your work for consideration, please fill out the online submission form and include:
- Digital image of your work
- 100-200 word artist statement
- Dimensions of your work
- Media type (example: painting, photograph, film, sculpture, textile, etc.)
- If this artwork has been shown before, please include when and where it was shown (example: Lake Placid Center for the Arts, July-August 2023)

The deadline for all submissions is Monday, November 16, 2026. Please limit 3 submissions per artist. Fill out one submission form per piece. You will be notified about whether your work has been chosen by early December. If your work is selected, the deadline to drop it off at the Lake Placid Public Library is Wednesday, December 23, 2026. Works will be on display from January through March (2027). Artists must return to pick up their pieces. Exact dates of the show will be announced when works are selected.
