There’s something special about building a place where people can come together. ❤️
The Home Building Foundation was proud to spend the day alongside Fireside Home Solutions to help bring a community-building project to life.
From setting a 1,000-pound outdoor fireplace to rebuilding and reinforcing the deck, our service team was happy to roll up their sleeves and help create a space designed for families to gather and make memories.
We’re incredibly grateful for partners who share our passion for strengthening our community through their time, talent, and big hearts.
We’ll be back soon to finish the work—and we’re excited to see the impact this space will have for years to come. 🏡

We’re especially proud to recognize Nathan Young, Founder of MODS PDX, HONE, and Building To Scale, HBF Board Member, and member of our Executive Committee.

Nathan gives an incredible amount of his time, knowledge, and energy to HBF. From leading shelter projects to helping build and teach Building to Scale, he is deeply involved in the work and continues to take on more as HBF grows.

“I believe it is incredibly important to share my knowledge, skills, and resources with those striving to improve their circumstances but who need a bit of support.”

Of the many HBF projects Nathan has led, Portland Rescue Mission stands out. Hearing directly from residents about what the renovation meant to them was an experience he says will stay with him forever.

Thank you so much to our amazing volunteers from Lennar Pacific Northwest for coming out to support the Home Building Foundation and Family Promise of GWC! Even in the rain, these hard-working volunteers tackled crucial projects to support Family Promise’s shelter in Beaverton.

Together with the HBF, we worked tirelessly to replace a fence for a safer home, add paneling to the new shed built by trainees, help clean up the property, and paint the interior of the modular building created by Nathan Young with MODS PDX alongside Kegan Flanderka with Base Design + Architecture. This space is being converted into office space so Family Promise can continue supporting families in need throughout Washington County.

These improvements will create a better, more accessible workspace for staff, increase privacy for families, elevate their quality of life, and expand shelter capacity by freeing up vital space inside the home.
