"John Wendland is the definition of a true public servant. Having served on Council with John for the past four years, I can honestly say that John cares deeply about the people, our financial wellbeing, our vibrant business community, our parks and recreations, and all that makes Lake Oswego home. I have always appreciated John's consensus building — whether it be with citizens, colleagues, visitors, and city staff. From growing up and going to school in LO, to raising a family, running a business and serving Lake Oswego School Board, John has a deep knowledge of our city and people.

Persuasive, polite, prepared and always willing to listen and, with a great sense of humor, I will truly miss working with John Wendland when my term in finished. A vote for John Wendland is a vote of all!"

I am honored to have received the endorsement of the Lake Oswego Review. "His calm, level-headed pragmatism has served Lake Oswego well, and the city has made measurable progress over the past four years in developing a climate action plan, reevaluating the role of police in the community and supporting businesses as they made their way through the pandemic." - Lake Oswego Review, 10/28/22

LO thrives as a great place to belong, because of the active and positive engagement of its people and civic leaders. I call it our "secret sauce." We have positive can-do energy, respectful and interactive relationships with each other and committed involvement. The sum of our collective parts and a willingness to have dialogue to face challenges and change contributes to a thriving community.

We are a model for other communities. City services run well because we insist on accountability. We have excellent schools where high standards are expected. Our downtown is bustling with wonderful businesses and restaurants. Our fabulous parks, trails and recreational activities and the opportunities we have for an active lifestyle contribute to an LO "vibe." Our committed nonprofit organizations and churches willingly support our people.

As a second term councilor, I look forward to hiring policies that are reflective of our principles of inclusiveness — just as I do in my small business. As a person, I will continue to put tolerance of opposing views at the forefront — just as I do in my life.

"I have watched John Wendland in action on the City Council. John clearly demonstrates the same characteristics that had always defined him on our School Board. He listens carefully, considers thoughtfully and replies with positive responses based on thorough homework and his desire to serve our community's long-term best interests.

John was raised here, raised his family here and will soon have a grandchild growing up in Lake Oswego. John loves and understands who we are and what we aspire to be. He is a collaborator, a hard-working business owner who takes his civic responsibility very seriously.

Working with John on the School Board, we sometimes disagreed on what to do but never on what mattered most. John's integrity and enthusiasm to work for us all make him a true standout. Our community is so fortunate to have John Wendland willing to serve another four years."

Lake Oswego handles well the balance between development and maintaining the overall LO character. We have the highest tree canopy coverage of any major city in Oregon, due to conservation efforts. At the same time, in the last five years, hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested in housing and commercial development. Development helps pay for outstanding city services and many extras, like our outstanding parks, which other cities cannot afford.

The availability of developable and affordable land is scarce in Lake Oswego, but we now have several apartment projects in the works that fit the LO style. Some are middle-income housing to help balance out housing shortages and add needed capacity.

Our current policies are working. Let constructive debate continue.

“We are thrilled to support John Wendland in his pursuit to serve another term on Lake Oswego City Council.

Having known John for nearly 20 years, his passion and dedication for helping Lake Oswego to be the best city it can be for all citizens is admirable, and we are grateful for his service. John is a natural leader and possesses a clear understanding of Lake Oswego’s past, present, and vision for its future. This stems from John’s long standing roots in LO where he grew up and once served as ASB President at Lake Oswego High School.

John is currently serving as City Council President. From the new City Hall to the Boones Ferry Project to the new community pool that is in progress to passing a bond to improve our beautiful parks, John has been an integral part of it all. His knowledge, experience and leadership are an invaluable asset to our city.

John’s love for Lake Oswego is unmatched. He asks for our vote so that he can complete unfinished projects and ensure that the future of our town is exceptional.

Please join us in casting your ballot to Re-Elect John Wendland to Lake Oswego City Council.”

"As a small business owner and mom of two young children, I ask you to vote to re-elect John Wendland to a second term on Lake Oswego City Council. John is a strong supporter of small business and has worked to develop strong partnerships with the Lake Oswego Chamber and economic development team to support local businesses.

John Wendland, however, is not all business. John has also spent his first term focused on improving Lake Oswego for families by adding new safe pathways to schools, working to get a new pool and rec center, and so much more. In the past four years, John has worked hard and succeeded in improving Lake Oswego and ensuring it is a wonderful place to live, work, and play. I would love to see what he can do with another four years!"
