It’s our 106th birthday! 🎂🎉🤗 In 1920, the League of Women Voters was founded by leaders of the women’s suffrage movement. For 106 years, we have been a nonpartisan, activist, grassroots organization that believes voters should play a critical role in democracy.

Back in September, UCSIC made the decision to bar nonpartisan organizations from providing voter registration services at naturalization ceremonies. (Swipe to read the statement released at that time).

Gratefully, local election officials are stepping in to still ensure new citizens have the chance to immediately register to vote. Reposted from —

“I’ve partnered with other election officials in our region to ensure that our newest United States Citizens have full access to register to vote and to vote!

After the USCIS made the decision in September to bar nonpartisan organizations like the League of Women Voters from providing voter registration services at naturalization ceremonies, local election officials have stepped up to fill that need.

Today I attended two naturalization ceremonies in North Portland, working with my colleagues to register about 50 new citizens to vote, including many from Clackamas County.

It is a special honor to say, “Congratulations on your citizenship! Would you like to register to vote?”

Thank you to Multnomah County Elections, Washington County Elections, City of Portland, Oregon Secretary of State Elections Division, and my staff for making it happen!”

This 👆. Gratefully, here in Oregon, our Secretary of State is fighting to keep voter data private. In a November 18, 2025 press release, Read stated: “This is exactly why I refused to give up Oregonians private voter data: because we can’t trust how it will be used by this lawless, cruel administration. I’m deeply concerned that they are hiding the truth from the American people, they are not properly securing this data, and they’ll use it to keep tearing families and communities apart.” 👏
