Jesse Decker Park is getting a makeover! The parking lot and walking paths have been crack-filled, resealed, and freshly painted.

Resurfacing work on the tennis courts is also underway. The courts will remain closed until further notice while this project is completed.

Our staff have been hard at work marking the trails in Camp Agawam, Bald Mountain, the Polly Ann Trail and Orion Oaks for our upcoming Dragon Trails Triathlon this weekend!

This includes directional stake signs, spray paint, caution tape & cones. All signs will be removed (and saved for future events) by Tuesday, September 15. If you see signs they are there to guide our athletes along these challenging courses.

Now Hiring Lifeguards!

We’re looking for qualified candidates ages 18 and older to join our awesome team at the Orion Recreation Center!

Not currently certified? We will be offering a lifeguard certification class September 19–21. Online coursework must be completed prior to the in-person class once enrolled. If you are hired to work with us, the class will be available at a discounted rate.

Prerequisites:

Swim 200 meters continuously on your stomach
Tread water for 2 minutes with your hands raised above the water
Dive underwater at least 8 feet

In the days following last Thursday’s severe thunderstorm, we’ve received several questions about yard waste and storm debris. We appreciate residents reaching out and want to provide some clarification about the best ways to dispose of storm-related yard waste.

Storm-related branches, leaves and other eligible yard debris can be placed out for collection through Orion Township’s regular yard waste collection program. Unlike the winter storm last December, Orion Township does not have designated storm debris drop-off sites for this event because we are currently in the regular yard waste collection season.

Yard waste is collected on your regular collection day from April 1 through December 15 each year.

Yard waste must be:
-Placed in large-capacity craft/paper bags;
-Placed loose in a reusable container clearly labeled “YARD WASTE” or “COMPOST”; or
-Bundled according to collection requirements.

Free stickers for labeling reusable containers are available at Township Hall and the Orion Recreation Center front desk.

For safe handling, bags and containers weighing more than 50 pounds must be divided into additional bags or containers. There is no weekly limit on the amount of yard waste residents may set out for collection.

Residents may also utilize the Clean Sweep Program, which provides a one-time reimbursement of up to $25 per year toward the cost of disposing of trash or debris at Eagle Valley Landfill or Environmental Wood Solutions.

To receive reimbursement, residents must submit proof of Orion Township residency, a dated receipt, and the completed Clean Sweep Reimbursement Application to the Township Clerk’s Office.

Power has been restored to the Orion Recreation Center and the facility has reopened.

However, due to the prolonged power outage in our area, we are unfortunately unable to safely reopen the outdoor pool this weekend. The outage caused the pool’s chlorine system to remain offline for an extended period of time, and we are unable to restore safe operating conditions before Labor Day.

As a result, the outdoor pool will remain closed for the remainder of the season, including the final three days through our final scheduled day on Monday.

We understand how disappointing this is, especially so close to the end of summer, and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Summer members, please know that your memberships are still valid through Labor Day. We are also grateful to share that the indoor pool is open and available for family swim from 12 PM 6 PM.

Thank you for your understanding and for a wonderful outdoor pool season!

Orion Parks & Recreation is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us for an exciting weekend of triathlon events!

Our Hatchling Hustle & Fledgling Fleet youth triathlons take place on Saturday, September 12, followed by the Dragon Trails Triathlon event on Sunday, September 13.

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available, including:
