READ - Rural Education, Advancement and Development Our mission is to improve the economic, educational, and health opportunities of underserved populations in Andean Ecuador through enhanced literacy.

READ enhances the standard of living of Ecuador’s most underserved population by introducing information resources to remote areas of the state of Cotopaxi, increasing the information literacy rate. Our services include the region’s first public library and collaboration with the state government to bring vocational courses to rural areas of the Pujili district; 120 miles from Quito. The 2010 cens

us cites the population of Pujili as 24.3% illiterate with an average educational level of 6th grade. Lack of education creates chronic poverty. Unreliable transportation coupled with poverty creates conditions that make educational opportunities unattainable for most living in rural Ecuador. Read provides monthly outreach to area schools and satellite information centers to maximize accessibility to our services.

Well folks, the Ice Festival set for this Saturday in Maggie Valley has been cancelled. This was our start the new year sale last year, so instead of a booth filled with READ goodies, I will be doing a blankets only sale this Saturday, Jan.31, right here. I will have @40 blankets loaded up! We can ship and you can pay via PayPal, Venmo, check, or call me with your credit card. I will start posting at 10 am on Saturday!! These beautiful blamlets are wicked warm and soft!

The end of a very productive blanket sale. I will keep the post of till I go to bed (it’s early)! Thank you to all of you who purchased a blanket. If you have paid, the package will go out tomorrow. If you need to still pay please check your messages for payment and shipping info. Thank you again. When you purchase from a non profit, you gift twice, once to the the person who is getting the blanket and once to the non- profit. And yes if you buy a blanket for yourself, it is a gift because these are so cozy!
