Volusia County Public Library, Lake Helen Public Library: Free Programs for Children and Adults in April
Lake Helen Public Library, 221 N. Euclid Ave. Lake Helen invites children and adults to enjoy a variety of free programs this April. Programs include literacy development, hands-on learning opportunities, learning and practicing technology skills, and enrichment. There are opportunities for everyone to develop new skills, spark creativity, and continue learning at the library.
Council on Aging 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6. This special presentation by Doreen Willett from Council on Aging introduces programs and resources available to seniors in Volusia County. Adults can learn about services that support healthy aging, caregiver needs, transportation options, meal programs, and other helpful community resources. No registration required.
Movie: The Summer Book 3:00 p.m., Monday, April 13. Adults can enjoy a movie at the library. Watch The Summer Book, a touching story about a young girl spending the summer on a remote island with her father and grandmother as she learns to navigate grief, family, and growing up. No registration required.
S.T.R.E.A.M.: Craft a Bird Feeder 3:30 p.m., Monday, April 20. S.T.R.E.A.M. is an interactive multi-literacy program that integrates Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math concepts aimed at developing innovation, imagination, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. School-age children are introduced to the building blocks of one or more S.T.R.E.A.M. learning concepts through exploratory hands-on activities in a fun and educational environment. No registration required.
Crafternoons: Bad Art 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 28. Adults can explore creativity while using a mix of materials to create silly, strange, or wonderfully “bad” masterpieces with the staff. Supplies are provided. Registration is required.
Toddler Time 11:00 a.m., Tuesdays, April 7, 14, 21, 28. Toddler Time is an interactive, 21st-century literacy program designed for children ages 18 months-3 years. Children and caregivers are introduced to basic building blocks of literacy through stories, rhymes, and music in a fun and educational environment. Programs may end with a brief S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math) activity. No registration required.
Sit & Be Fit 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays, April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Adults can improve balance, dexterity, and strength during this library-staff-led gentle seated exercise program. No registration required.
S.T.R.E.A.M.: Engineering with LEGOs 3:30 p.m., Thursdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. S.T.R.E.A.M.: Engineering with LEGOs is an interactive multi-literacy program that integrates Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math concepts aimed at developing innovation, imagination, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. School-age children are introduced to the building blocks of one or more S.T.R.E.A.M. learning concepts through exploratory hands-on activities in a fun and educational environment. Kids can let their imagination soar with hands-on building challenges with LEGO blocks. No registration required.
Wiggle, Giggle, Groove 11:00 a.m., Select Fridays, April 10, 17, 24. Wiggle, Giggle, Groove is an interactive physical program for children 0-5 years. Children and caregivers are introduced to basic movements designed to build coordination, motor skills, rhythm, and flexibility during this lively, music-filled program. No registration required.
