Today is World Sickle Cell Disease Day. Sickle Cell Disease is a disorder that affects the shape of red blood cells, and it can be devastating for those who suffer from it.

Normal red blood cells contain hemoglobin A, which carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. People with sickle cell disease have red blood cells that contain mostly hemoglobin S, which causes the red blood cells to change from the round shape to a banana or “sickle” shape. Some complications from sickle cell disease include:

• infections
• painful swelling of hands and feet
• fatigue
• stroke
• organ damage
• pain

𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐖𝐂𝐏𝐇 𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐃𝐀𝐘, 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝟏𝟖 𝐈𝐍 𝐐𝐔𝐄𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐘

Our third rabies clinic of 2026 will be held Saturday, July 18 at Queensbury Community Center, 742 Bay Road. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

We are requiring registration for our rabies clinics this year.
Registration will open the second week of July for this clinic. We will announce when registration is available.

There is no charge, but a donation of $10 is suggested to help cover our costs.

This clinic is open to the first 100 people to register. You can register through the link on this webpage when registration opens: https://www.warrencountyny.gov/healthservices.

June is Headache and Migraine Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness about migraine and other headache diseases.

Migraine impacts forty million people in the United States, one billion people across the globe, and is recognized as the #2 cause of disability worldwide. Currently, about 16 million people with migraines in the U.S. are undiagnosed. Approximately 400,000 Americans experience cluster headaches, recognized as one of the most painful diseases a person can have.

⚠️⚠️ INFANT FORMULA RECALL ⚠️⚠️

Nara Organics has recalled all of its whole milk organic powdered infant formula currently on the market out of an abundance of caution due to the potential risk of Clostridium botulinum contamination, which can cause serious illness among infants.

Nara Organics Powdered Infant Formula was distributed nationally across Target retail stores, Target.com, and Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026.

Customers should stop using the affected products immediately and either return it or dispose of it. If your baby has consumed this product and is presenting symptoms of infant botulism including, but not limited to vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids, and weak crying, please contact your healthcare provider for immediate care.

TICK EDUCATION EVENT IN GLENS FALLS ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17

We continue to receive reports about tick bites and encounters, as this past winter's weather doesn't seem to have had much of a detrimental impact on the tick population.

To help people learn about the disease threats they can pose, Warren County Public Health staff will hold a Tick Education event at 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝟑𝟖𝟎 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭, 𝐆𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Our Public Health Educator staff will be on hand for a talk about tick disease trends, how the insects spread disease, offer tick prevention tips and more. Tick removal kits and educational materials will be available at no charge.
