🍽️ FREE Summer Meals | Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District is excited to serve FREE meals again this summer as part of the USDA's Summer Nutrition Programs! Starting June 9, 2026, we will offer breakfast and lunch. We are extremely happy to provide this service to our community throughout the summer. Please see the dates, locations, and details below.

⚠️ Badger High School Note: Unfortunately, Badger High School did not qualify for the USDA's Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids. As a result, we are unable to offer free breakfast or lunch from Badger. Badger students can pick up breakfast or lunch at LGMS or Central-Denison.

Calling all youth writers and aspiring authors! As part of the Lakeside Literary Festival, we want to recognize youth writers in our community. 📝 Read this post in its entirety to submit your work of fiction or nonfiction short stories, essays, or poetry.

One award will be given per division:
    •    Elementary Division: Grades 1–5
    •    Middle School Division: Grades 6–8
    •    High School Division: Grades 9–12

On day two of Kids Academy 2026, students learned about the Klondike Gold Rush by participating in a simulation of what it was like in Alaska during that time. Students moved outside and placed their hands in ice water for 2 minutes in order to feel a numbing sensation. Students were then tasked with placing 20 beads on a string. There was then a discussion centering around the benefits the students had, on an almost 90° day, that those during the actual Klondike Gold Rush did not have. Benefits included: having hot air around them, only being cold for 2 minutes, having the ability to remove hands from the ice water when it became too much, and more. Students moved back inside, and after a quick discussion of what instincts are and how instincts can be helpful, students read To Build a Fire by Jack London and watched a short video clip adaptation of the story. Following a recess and snack break, students broke off into groups to build their own dog sled models. Each group was given a set amount of supplies, including popsicle sticks, straws, yarn, paper clips, pipe cleaners, and more. Groups will compete to see which model can bear the most amount of weight for the longest distance.

On Thursday, the 8th grade teachers recognized their students for their hard work on the Spring I-Ready Diagnostic Test. Our Top Banana Award in reading, went to Evlyn Carr with the highest score for the year and Abby Schwenn for showing the most growth. In math, we recognized Eli Sanders for being the Top Banana with the highest score for the year and Melanie Martinez for showing the most growth. Congratulations to these students!

6th and 7th grade students spent the end of their last day of school doing a school-wide activity to celebrate all of their hard work this year! The activity time included tug of war, hungry, hungry hippos, and generational trivia! Great work this year, everyone! Enjoy your summer!

On Thursday, the 8th grade teachers recognized the following students with the 8th grade award. The award states, "You lead by example, treat others with kindness and respect, and demonstrate integrity in all you do. You truly are an all-around fantastic person, and we are proud to recognize you!" We are very appreciative of these students every day, and we know they will be successful as they begin the next chapter in their journey.
