Join us and other Washington, Ramsey and Dakota county fire departments for Women Explore Fire Day in Minnesota on Saturday May 2, 2026 starting at 10:00 AM.

This event is being held at the East Metro Training Facility in Maplewood (1881 Century Avenue N, Maplewood). Registration is required at: https://womenexplorefire.com.

Women Explore Fire Day in Minnesota is dedicated to women exploring what it’s like to be in the fire service. Join us for a hands-on opportunity to explore volunteer, paid-on-call, and/or full-time firefighting near you.

Why this matters:
Fewer than 10% of firefighters nationwide are women. We’re working to change that by creating hands-on opportunities and the chance to experience the fire world up close. Fire departments across the state are short-staffed, and more people are needed to step up and serve.

What to expect on event day:
✅ Try on real fire gear
✅ Experience hose handling, medical & fireground basics
✅ Meet inspiring women and men in the fire service
✅ Build confidence in a supportive, team-centered environment
✅ Learn how you can serve your community in a rewarding and meaningful way.

The mission is simple: to empower women to explore the fire service through real experience and community. Whether you're curious, committed, or somewhere in between, you belong here.

Statewide Tornado Drills – Thursday, April 16- 1:45pm & 6:45pm
As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, two statewide tornado drills will be conducted today. Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning. These drills are an excellent opportunity for residents to prepare their homes, families, neighborhoods and communities!

Afternoon Tornado Drill - 1:45 p.m.
Schools, businesses and other facilities are encouraged to conduct a tornado drill at this time to practice their tornado sheltering plans.

Evening Tornado Drill- 6:45 p.m.
The reason for a 6:45 p.m. drill is that severe weather including tornadoes occurs most often between 3 and 8 p.m. The statewide 1:45 p.m. drill gives institutions, first-shift and day workers a time to practice, but it does not allow second-shift workers the same opportunity. The 6:45 p.m. tornado drill also allows families to practice their sheltering plans.

Outdoor Warning Siren Network
The City of Lake Elmo owns and maintains 9 outdoor warning sirens throughout the city. Our siren network is tested and activated through the Washington County 911 Commination Center.

Outdoor warning sirens are meant to be heard outside. When sirens sound, residents should always seek shelter and tune to local weather information on radio, television, or NOAA weather radio for more information.

House Fire Training Exercise

The Lake Elmo Fire Department will be conducting live structure fire training tomorrow, Saturday, April 11, 2026 in the area of Legion Avenue N and 30th Street N.

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

What to Expect:
This active house burn provides a vital, real-world environment for our firefighters to practice life-saving techniques. While smoke and flames will be visible, please be assured this is a controlled training exercise only. There is no need to call 9-1-1 to report smoke in this specific area during these hours.

Safety & Environment:
By using a controlled burn for training rather than traditional demolition, we are able to provide life-saving training while strictly managing the environmental impact in a way that unplanned emergencies do not allow. Prior to the burn, the department secured all necessary permits from the MN DNR and MPCA. We have also completed a full asbestos inspection and abatement to ensure community safety compliance with permitting requirements. Following the exercise, the site will remain secured for two weeks per disposal regulations before being moved to a certified landfill.

We appreciate your support as we work to keep Lake Elmo safe and provide a unique training opportunity for our firefighters.

Adopt a Fire Hydrant This Winter!

Help keep our community safe by adopting a fire hydrant near your home.

After snowfalls, clear snow and ice at least 3 feet around the hydrant and create a clear path to the street so firefighters can access it quickly in an emergency.

It’s a simple way to make a big difference—no registration required; just grab a shovel and help out!

Thank you for helping keep Lake Elmo safe this winter. ❤️Lake Elmo Fire Department
