๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ OCTOBER IS FIRE PREVENTION MONTH! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Today, members of the Lake Township Fire Department had the wonderful opportunity to visit a local daycare and spend some time teaching our youngest community members about fire safety and fire prevention!

The children had the opportunity to get an up-close look at our fire truck, climb inside, explore the equipment, and learn a little about what firefighters do to keep our community safe! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’

But today was about much more than just showing off a fire truck!

Fire prevention education at a young age can make a difference that lasts a lifetime. Teaching children about smoke alarms, what to do if they hear one, how to safely escape a fire, and why they should never hide from firefighters can help save lives.

Another extremely important part of these visits is helping children become comfortable around firefighters. During an emergency, a firefighter wearing full protective gear and a breathing apparatus can look and sound scary to a young child. By introducing children to firefighters in a fun, friendly environment, we help build trust so that if an emergency ever happens, they understand we are there to help them, not hurt them.

These visits also give us the opportunity to build positive relationships with the next generation. Who knows? One of those little kids climbing through our fire truck today might just become a Lake Township firefighter someday!

We believe fire prevention doesn't start when the alarm goes off. It starts with education, awareness, and teaching our children how to stay safe before an emergency ever happens.

A huge thank-you to the daycare for inviting us and allowing us to spend time with such a great group of kids! Seeing their excitement, smiles, and curiosity reminds us why community involvement is such an important part of what we do.

At Lake Township Fire Department, we're not just here to respond to emergencies. We're here to educate, protect, and make a difference in the community we proudly serve.

๐Ÿš’ GARAGE FIRE โ€“ W. KELLY ROAD ๐Ÿš’

Tuesday at approximately 8:58 a.m., Lake Township Fire Department Stations 600, 200 & 300 were toned for a reported garage fire in the 6000 block of W. Kelly Road.

Upon arrival, crews found a 30' ร— 40' garage with an approximately 10' lean-to, with roughly a 1-foot-square area of visible flame showing from the bottom portion of an exterior wall.

Firefighters quickly located the fire, opened up the affected area, and extinguished the flames before the fire could spread throughout the structure. The cause of the fire was determined to be faulty electrical wiring.

Thanks to the quick response and work of all responding personnel, the fire was contained to a small area and a much larger structure fire was prevented.

We would like to thank all responding departments and personnel for their assistance and teamwork.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ WE WILL NEVER FORGET โ€” SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today, Lake Township Fire Department pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the 2,977 innocent lives taken that day.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and all of the first responders who ran toward danger while others were trying to escape.

We also remember the countless first responders, recovery workers, and survivors whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day.

September 11 showed us the very best of the American spirit โ€” courage, sacrifice, compassion, and neighbors helping neighbors.

As firefighters, we will always honor the brothers and sisters who answered their final call that morning. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Never Forget.
๐Ÿš’ 343 โ€” Gone, but never forgotten.

At Lake Township Fire Department, weโ€™re always looking for ways to improve the safety of our firefighters and the motorists traveling through our scenes.
We recently added upward-facing emergency lights to some of our apparatus. As you can see in the photos, these lights project a highly visible beam into the night sky, making our presence noticeable from a much greater distance.
This can be especially beneficial when our trucks are positioned around curves, over hills, on dark rural roads, or in areas where trees and other obstacles may block the normal emergency lights. Drivers may be able to see the glow in the sky before they can actually see our apparatus or the emergency scene, giving them an earlier warning that something is ahead.
That extra warning can mean more time to slow down, pay attention, and approach the scene cautiously.
Our firefighters spend a lot of time working along roadways, sometimes in extremely dark and dangerous conditions. Anything we can do to make our apparatus and emergency scenes more visible helps protect our firefighters, other emergency personnel, and the traveling public.
So if you see red beams lighting up the night sky, there's a good chance emergency crews are working somewhere ahead.
Please slow down, move over when possible, and give us room to work.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Lake Township Fire Department Training ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Last night, Lake Township Fire Department members spent the evening training on search, rescue, and recovery operations.

These skills are extremely important because during a structure fire or other emergency, conditions can change quickly. Heavy smoke, heat, darkness, and unfamiliar surroundings can make locating and removing a victim very challenging.

Training like this helps our firefighters improve teamwork, communication, search techniques, victim removal, situational awareness, and overall safety. Repetition builds confidence and helps ensure our members are prepared to act quickly when every second matters.

Regular hands-on training benefits our township by giving our firefighters the knowledge and experience needed to provide the safest, fastest, and most effective response possible when our community needs us.

Weโ€™re proud of our members for continuing to put in the time and effort to better themselves and better serve Lake Township and our surrounding communities.

๐Ÿš’ Train hard. Stay prepared. Serve our community.

EXCITING NEWS FOR LAKE TOWNSHIP!
At the Lake Township Fire Department, we are always looking for ways to advance our equipment, improve our capabilities, and provide the best possible service to our community. We also work hard to find opportunities that allow us to improve without placing an additional financial burden on our township residents.
Today, we are extremely excited to announce that we picked up a 2015 Ford F-550 4x4 former U.S. Forest Service Type 6 engine โ€” at absolutely NO COST to our department or our amazing community!
This truck was retired from government service and made available to us through the Michigan DNR. Instead of having to spend township funds purchasing a similar vehicle, we were able to acquire this truck completely free of charge.
The F-550 is equipped with:
๐Ÿ”ฅ 300 gallons of water
๐Ÿ”ฅ 15-gallon foam system
๐Ÿ”ฅ 4-wheel drive capability
๐Ÿ”ฅ Compact and highly maneuverable design
๐Ÿ”ฅ Plenty of room for firefighting and rescue equipment
This truck is going to be a great fit for our department. Once equipped and placed into service, it will give us another versatile response vehicle for motor vehicle accidents, small fires, grass and wildland fires, downed power lines, storm-related calls, and many of the other emergencies we respond to throughout the year.
One of the biggest benefits will be the ability to carry our extrication equipment, allowing our firefighters to get critical rescue tools on scene quickly when someone is trapped or injured in a vehicle. Its smaller size and four-wheel-drive capability will also allow us to reach areas where a larger fire engine may have difficulty operating.
Before the truck officially goes into service, we have some work to do. One of the biggest changes will be giving it a new look by changing it from Forest Service green to FIRE DEPARTMENT RED! We will also outfit and organize it specifically around the needs of Lake Township.
We take a lot of pride in being responsible with the resources entrusted to us. When an opportunity comes along to acquire a piece of equipment like this at no cost to our taxpayers, while significantly improving our ability to serve the township, we are going to take advantage of it.
Every improvement we make has one goal behind it: better serving and protecting the people who call Lake Township home.
We are incredibly thankful for this opportunity and excited to see what this truck becomes. Most importantly, we are proud that this addition will benefit our department and our community for years to come โ€” without costing our taxpayers a dime to purchase.
Great things continue to happen at Lake Township Fire Department, and we're just getting started!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE STEEL PATRIOTS M/C!

The Lake Township Fire Department would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to Mark Soffin, point of contact for the Steel Patriots M/C organization, and the entire Steel Patriots M/C for their incredibly generous donation of TWO AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) to our department.

This donation is more than just equipmentโ€”it has the potential to save a life. โค๏ธ

During sudden cardiac arrest, every second matters. An AED can analyze a person's heart rhythm and, when necessary, deliver a shock that may help restore an effective rhythm. Having these AEDs readily available gives our firefighters another critical tool when responding to medical emergencies, training events, community functions, and other situations where immediate intervention may be needed.

For a small community and volunteer fire department, donations like this make a tremendous difference. They help us improve our capabilities while ensuring our firefighters have the equipment needed to better serve and protect our residents and visitors.

Mark and the Steel Patriots M/C, we cannot thank you enough for investing in the safety of our community and supporting the Lake Township Fire Department. Organizations and individuals like you are what make our community so special.

From all of us at the Lake Township Fire Departmentโ€”THANK YOU! Your generosity could very well help save someone's life someday. ๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ CALL RESPONSE โ€“ TREE ON POWER LINE ๐Ÿšจ

At approximately 8:21 PM, Lake Township Fire Department was toned out for a report of a tree on a power line in the 6000 block of Lakeview Drive.

We responded with Brush Truck 64 and Rescue 62. Upon arrival, crews determined that a fallen tree had struck a live electrical service line, causing the line to pull on and damage a portion of the side of a nearby pole barn structure.

Because the electrical line was still energized, crews secured the area and Truck 64 remained on scene while the electrical hazard was addressed. Rescue 62 was returned to the station and placed back in service, ensuring that we still had apparatus and personnel available to respond quickly should another emergency occur in our community.

Calls like this may seem routine, but downed or damaged power lines should always be treated as energized and dangerous. Please stay well away from fallen trees involving electrical lines and contact 911 when there is an immediate hazard.

We are extremely proud to serve Lake Township and the people who call it home. Whether it's a structure fire, vehicle accident, water or ice emergency, storm damage, or a tree across a power line, our firefighters are committed to being there when our community needs us.

Thank you to our residents for your continued support of the Lake Township Fire Department. It's an honor to serve such a great community.
