Friends of Columbia County Public Library Founded in 1975, we are a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to supporting the Columbia County Public Library, its programs and services at all locations.

Friends of the Library:
- foster the library's mission to educate, entertain and enlighten
- provide programs of interest to its members
- expand awareness and appreciation of and support for library services in Columbia County, Florida

Fundraising activities include an ongoing used book sale at the Main location of the Columbia County Public Library, 308 NW Columbia Ave., Lake City, FL 32055.

Join us for a compelling presentation by Project: Cold Case , a nonprofit organization based in Jacksonville, Florida, dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for unsolved homicide cases.

Representatives will discuss the lasting impact on families, the importance of community awareness, and the ongoing efforts—alongside local law enforcement—to bring resolution and justice. This is a powerful opportunity to learn about real cases from our area and the work being done to keep their stories alive.

Join us Saturday, October 4th at the Main Library at 2 PM.

The ACTS2 Caregiver Project is offering a FREE caregiver training at the Main Library. Join us Thursday, October 2nd from 11 - 1 PM to learn valuable skills as well as about the services they offer. Everyone is welcome, and lunch will be provided!

Thanks to support from Four Rivers Audubon Society and the Friends of Columbia County Public Library, there are birding backpacks available for check out at each library location. Each backpack includes binoculars, birding books for kids and adults, information on local birding spots, and more!🗺️

Backpacks can be borrowed with an adult card for one week. To check it out, ask at the Circulation Desk of your favorite library location.

Due to Hurricane Milton, all locations of the Columbia County Public Library will close on Tuesday, October 8 at 5:00 pm as staff prepare to work in emergency shelters and at the Citizens Information Center. We will reopen as soon as we are able.

Shelters will open at 6PM, tonight, October 8, 2024. Shelter locations include:
· Deep Creek Community Center, 11934 N. US Highway 441, Lake City, FL 32055
· Richardson Community Center, 255 NE Coach Anders Ln., Lake City, FL 32055 (Special Needs and General Population)
· Fort White Community Center, 17579 SW State Road 47, Fort White 32038
· Shands Lake Shore HRIM, 428 NE Davis Ave, Lake City, FL 32055 (Pet Friendly)

The emergency shelter locations provide shelter and restroom facilities for individuals seeking refuge from Hurricane Milton and the potential flooding. The only items provided at shelters are cots for sleeping, water, and limited food; please bring only the essentials that you will need for sheltering. Fi****ms and alcohol are not permitted in public shelters. Our shelters are open to anyone; however, due to limited space at emergency shelters, we encourage individuals seeking shelter to first contact family and friends that have a safe and secure building structure, and request to stay as a guest during or after the storm. If you are considering going to a hotel, please take note that hotels in Columbia County have limited availability, and it is recommended that individuals contact hotels directly for reservations prior to arrival to confirm rooms are available.
