Lake City Fire Department Responds to Residential Structure Fire

LAKE CITY, Minn. — At approximately 5:33 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, the Lake City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 200 block of South 7th Street in Lake City.

Initial reports indicated a house was on fire, with fire believed to be originating in the kitchen area. It was initially unknown whether anyone was inside the residence, and dispatch information indicated pets may have been inside.

Lake City firefighters began responding within minutes and arrived on scene at approximately 5:38 p.m. Four department apparatus responded to the incident: Engine 16, Rescue 18, Ladder 20, and Engine 21. Lake City was assisted on scene by Lake City Police, Lake City Ambulance, and mutual aid support from Wabasha Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to quickly clear the house and determine there wasn’t anyone inside. Crews worked at the scene for several hours, with the incident concluding at approximately 9:25 p.m.

🚒 Tuesday Night Training (Sorry I didn’t get any more action shots tonight)

The Lake City Fire Department trains on the second and third Tuesday of every month from 6–8 PM, covering a wide variety of skills to keep us ready to serve our community and the surrounding area.

Tonight, our training took us in two directions.

Seven of our 22 firefighters headed to Frontenac State Park with our side-by-side to learn more about trail and emergency access throughout the park. With bluffs, ravines, river access, campgrounds, and miles of hiking trails, there are plenty of places where an emergency could be challenging to reach. The crew explored access routes and talked through how we would respond to an injured hiker, search and rescue, camping emergency, or whatever else might bring us there.

The rest of the crew stayed in town working on truck drills, equipment familiarization, and apparatus operations. Our newer firefighters got some valuable hands-on time while working toward the hours and test needed to operate our trucks.

Whether it’s deep in the woods or right here in town, training nights help make sure we’re ready when the call comes. 🚒

With harvest season right around the corner, the training crew at Lake City Fire Department has been working hard to make sure we’re ready—just in case. 🚒🌾

Tonight, Ag Partners loaned us one of their grain bins so we could train and discuss strategies for an emergency requiring a rescue from above. Our firefighters participated in high-angle rescue training using our ladder truck and ropes equipment. Two groups of rescuers were lowered into the grain bin from more than 85 feet in the air, giving our members the opportunity to practice the many different roles needed during a technical rescue of this complex nature—including Incident Command, Safety Officer, technical rescue crews, ground rigging operations, apparatus staging, communication protocols, and more.

If you need our help on the farm this year, we’ll be ready.

The 22 volunteer firefighters of the LCFD train year-round to prepare for whatever this region throws at us—from farm accidents to river rescues in the freezing cold or scorching heat, to grass fires, to fully involved barns, sheds, and homes, to vehicle and motorcycle accidents, and technical rope rescues like tonight… whatever the call, whatever your worst day brings you, we train to be ready.

A big thank you to Ag Partners for working with us and giving our firefighters the opportunity to train in a real-world environment. We had a great night climbing around, learning, and preparing for the call we hope never comes. 🌾🚒

Today, the Lake City Fire Department is honored to raise our American flag over the Lake City VFW in recognition of a very special occasion.

Congratulations to Monty Vikdal on his promotion to the rank of Captain in the United States Navy.

This achievement reflects years of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to our country. On behalf of the members of the Lake City Fire Department, we extend our sincere congratulations and gratitude to Captain Vikdal for his service.
