That’s a wrap on Thunder Over Louisiana! ✈️🇺🇸

The Lake Charles Fire Department had a great two days serving the thousands of people who came out to enjoy the show. Our LCFD Event Medical Team worked hard both days and was proud to be there to help our citizens, assisting Acadian Ambulance with several heat-related medical issues throughout the weekend. 🚑☀️

LCFD also had a suppression engine and crew standing by near the vendors, ready to respond should a fire or other emergency occur. Thankfully, everything went off without a hitch on that front, and our crew was able to enjoy the show along with everyone else! 🚒👏

We’re proud of the men and women of LCFD who helped make safety a priority while our community came together to enjoy an incredible weekend. ❤️

On August 26, 2026, the Lake Charles Fire Department watched with pride and joy as one of our own firefighters rode with the Blue Angels.

Firefighter Jeremy Thomas was selected from a group of applicants, all hoping for a once in a lifetime chance to fly with the Blue Angels.

The US Navy Blue Angels are in town prepping for this weekend’s airshow at Chennault Airbase.

Jeremy’s extensive community outreach, as well as the time he volunteers working with track athletes across the parish, made him a shoo-in for the opportunity to fulfill a dream most others can only aspire to accomplish.

We at the Lake Charles Fire Department are immensely proud of Jeremy and want to extend our congratulations to him on this achievement. His hard work on and off duty has proven to be an example of the person we all strive to become!

Today, the Lake Charles City Council recognized members of the Lake Charles Fire Department for their extraordinary actions during a structure fire on July 28.

When firefighters arrived, they were met with heavy fire conditions in a multi-family dwelling and reports that an occupant was trapped inside. As fire spread toward an adjacent building, LCFD crews immediately went to work—attacking the fire, securing a water supply, protecting the neighboring structure and searching for the trapped occupant.

With the primary access points blocked by heat and fire, the crew of Ladder 6 made the decision to enter from the Bravo-Charlie side. After removing a section of fence and reaching a bedroom window, they entered the structure, located the trapped occupant and brought her to safety through the window.

That rescue was made possible by the coordinated efforts of every firefighter and officer on scene. From fire attack and water supply to command, exposure protection, search, rescue and patient care, each role mattered.

Today, we recognize these firefighters for more than simply doing their jobs. They trusted their training, trusted one another and put themselves in harm’s way to save a life.

🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT PARISHWIDE

Due to dry conditions and little rain in the forecast, a parishwide burn ban is now in effect until further notice.

By executive order of Calcasieu Parish Police Jury President Brian Abshire, all outdoor private burning of any kind is prohibited. This includes burning trash, leaves, brush and other materials.

🚫 No outdoor private burning.
🌱 Prescribed burns are not included in the ban.

The burn ban was issued at the request of Calcasieu Parish fire departments and gives firefighters the authority to extinguish fires that violate the order. Residents who disobey the burn ban may face penalties.

Please help our firefighters and our community stay safe. If it can wait, don’t burn it.

Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Lake Charles Fire Department!

Join us in celebrating the graduation of Recruit Class 261, consisting of six dedicated individuals who have successfully completed more than 16 weeks of intensive training at the fire academy.

During their training, these recruits earned certifications in:

• Hazardous Materials Awareness
• Hazardous Materials Operations
• Firefighter I
• Firefighter II
• Rope Rescue Awareness
• Emergency Medical Responder

These certifications represent countless hours of classroom instruction, hands-on training, physical conditioning and unwavering commitment to serving our community.

Mayor Marshall Simien, city administration, and fire department leadership are proud to recognize these graduates as they complete this important milestone and prepare to begin their careers in public service.

Over the next week, these firefighters will report to their assigned shifts and begin serving the residents of Lake Charles. We thank them for answering the call to serve and wish them success as they embark on this rewarding and challenging profession.

We are so proud of this rating and thankful to the entire team who has worked so hard to make this a reality.

“This Class 1 rating is the result of years of hard work, coordination and investment in our fire department, water system and emergency response capabilities,” Chief Delton Carter explains. “From improved hydrant coverage to enhanced training and equipment, our team remains committed to providing the highest level of service to the citizens of Lake Charles. This recognition reinforces that commitment and motivates us to continue raising the bar.”

The Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) has completed the Public Fire Protection Classification review for the City of Lake Charles and issued a Class 1 rating to residential and commercial properties located in the City.

This marks the first time the City has achieved a Class 1 rating, improving from its previous Class 2 designation. The Lake Charles Fire Department is also one of only 10 municipal fire departments in the state to earn this distinction. Most importantly, the Class 1 rating may lead to reduced fire insurance rates for property owners.

“This Class 1 rating is a major milestone for the City of Lake Charles and a reflection of the strategic investments we’ve made in our infrastructure and public safety systems,” says Mayor Marshall Simien. “Our residents and businesses deserve the highest level of protection, and this achievement demonstrates our commitment to building a safer, stronger community. We’re proud of the work that has gone into earning this distinction and the potential savings it may bring to our citizens.”

The purpose of the survey is to gather information to determine the proper Public Fire Protection Classification of the City and the classification is used by member companies of the PIAL to develop fire insurance premiums.

“I congratulate the City of Lake Charles and Lake Charles Fire Department for earning this Class 1 rating,” says Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple. “These improvements to the City’s emergency response capabilities and water system send a clear signal to the market that Lake Charles is committed to public safety, which can lead to lower property insurance premiums by reducing the risk of fire loss. I encourage every resident and business owner in Lake Charles to shop around by contacting multiple agents and insurance companies to take full advantage of this new rating.”

PIAL cited the City’s improvements to hydrants, water service and other applicable factors as the reason for the higher fire rating.
