Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) is a beautiful place to live and travel. The five-parish area (Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Jeff Davis and Beauregard) supports highways, interstates and rural roads that people travel for all sorts of different purposes. Bicyclists, pedestrians, drivers and passengers, and motorcyclists all use the roadways to reach a destination. And the goal of SWLA is to make sure that
every person safely arrives at his/her destination, which will result in the achievement of Louisiana's ultimate goal: zero deaths on Louisiana roadways. The coalition focuses on five emphasis areas:
1. Young Drivers
3. Occupant Protection
4. Infrastructure
a) Intersections b) Roadway Departures
5. Vulnerable Road Users
a) Pedestrians b) Motorcycles c) Bicycles
The full coalition meets twice per year. Individual Emphasis Area Workgroups meet once per quarter and/or as needed.
