At last night’s meeting, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury approved moving forward with the design of an intersection improvement at Goos Road, You Winn Road and Campfire Road in Moss Bluff.

The intersection was identified as a priority in the 2023 Intersection Study, which evaluated traffic, roadway design, crash history, and other engineering factors. This intersection has seen 15 crashes over the past five years (see attached graphic).

The study recommended a compact roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow. The compact design has a smaller footprint, requires less right-of-way, and is expected to cost roughly half as much as a traditional full-size roundabout.

This is the first step in the process. The design phase will determine the actual layout and evaluate right-of-way, property impacts, drainage, utilities, and other details. Traffic and access will be maintained throughout construction, with construction staging and traffic control addressed as part of the design.

Our Engineering Department also continues to evaluate and work toward improvements at other intersections in Moss Bluff and throughout Calcasieu Parish. Moving this project into design does not stop that work.

We’ll continue to share updates as the design progresses.

Did you know? Political and campaign signs aren’t allowed in public road rights-of-way or on utility poles.

Signs in these areas can block drivers’ views, distract motorists, and interfere with road maintenance. When this happens, CPPJ Code Enforcement Officers may remove signs in the public right-of-way.

Not sure where to place a sign? Contact Calcasieu Parish Planning and Development for guidance at 337-721-3600.
