Currently, the District Attorney's Office employs over 100 people who are ready, willing, and able to assist you. This website was put together in an effort to inform the community of the many programs we utilize and the methods we employ to help reduce the crime rate. We prosecute to the fu

Today, our team participated in a mock jury selection training, giving our attorneys the opportunity to navigate real world challenges they may face in the courtroom. Staff members stepped into character as jurors, presenting different personalities, perspectives, and issues attorneys must identify and address during voir dire.

Training like this helps ensure our attorneys stay sharp, prepared, and ready to pursue justice for our Parish.

LOPEZ-MONTOYA SENTENCED TO 60 YEARS FOR AGGRAVATED CRIMES AGAINST NATURE BY IN**ST

Today, April 28, 2026, Judge Kendrick Guidry sentenced Jose R. Lopez-Montoya, 41, Lake Charles, to sixty (60) years in prison at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence on an Aggravated Crimes Against Nature by In**st charge.

On April 20th, Lopez-Montoya pleaded Guilty.

In 2024, Lopez-Montoya impregnated a family member who was under the age of thirteen at the time of the crime.

“No child should ever endure this type of abuse, especially at the hands of someone they trusted. Although we can never take away the profound trauma the young girl went through, I hope she finds peace in knowing this monster can no longer hurt her, or anyone else for that matter. Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our Parish and standing with victims every step of the way,” said District Attorney Stephen Dwight.

Deputy Chief of Litigation Taylor Alexander handled the case for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
