Last week, several of our dedicated District employees volunteered with Second Harvest Food Bank to assist in sorting food. Here's a glimpse into their impactful work:

On March 26th, they sorted 17,000 lbs. of frozen meat, which equates to 15,200 meals.

Additionally, on March 28th, they sorted 11,635 lbs. of frozen meat, providing 9,200 meals!

We take pride in contributing to our community through volunteering and are excited to continue to do so!

CFTOD Building Official Joey Rodriguez attended the Dedication Ceremony for Angel Saffold. Ms. Saffold, a deserving recipient of this home, worked tirelessly to accomplish her goal of home ownership.

While working a full-time job, she fought hard to raise her four children in her hometown. Our region faces a housing crisis, and each home Habitat builds provides not only a home but a cascading ripple effect throughout our community.

Joey said, “It’s always a great feeling to give back to our community by lending my skills and time. I give a heartfelt thanks to Habitat for Humanity, Mayor Demmings, and the CFTOF team who helped to make this possible.”

The District celebrates the strong future this home will give Angel and her children. We look forward to this continued partnership and further opportunities to make an impact across our communities.

What an incredible week last week was! The new class of Fire Department family members cooked for those on shift AND for the Department retirees. Retired firefighters, officers, chief officers, and 2 retired fire chiefs ate and chatted with personnel.

Bud Cariel and Ken Perry, who were part of the first group of firefighters in the Department known as "the original 12", also attended. In one photo, you can see Bud (Badge #4) talking to a group of new hires whose badge numbers are in the 450s!

Yesterday, Fire Chief Ferrari unveiled the fire department's new name and emblem, a decision voted on by all 220 public safety personnel in the department. The newly-named District Fire Department is upholding its ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of all guests on district property.

As Chief Eric Ferrari stated, "Today, we wholeheartedly embrace change, drawing upon the same unwavering determination that has defined our response to every call for service. Our freshly minted name and emblem signify not just a new chapter but an entirely revitalized narrative. We stand as custodians of countless cherished memories, guardians of the thousands who contribute to the magic that defines our community. Reflecting on an inspiring moment earlier this week when I had the privilege of presenting Central Florida Tourism Oversight District's groundbreaking Buy Local Now initiative at the Florida Economic Consortium's Emerging Market Townhall. Since its launch just over 90 days ago, this transformative program has been a catalyst for positive change, awarding over 50 million dollars in contracts. What's truly remarkable is that 14 million of those dollars went to new vendors, while 9 million supported companies headquartered in Orange, Osceola, Polk, Lake, and Seminole counties.

The impact doesn't stop there—CFTOD's Buy Local initiative also played a pivotal role in generating substantial savings of 4.2 million for our taxpayers. This is more than just economic growth; it's about fostering a thriving ecosystem where local businesses flourish, communities thrive, and taxpayers benefit.

A heartfelt thank you to Commissioner Rod Love of the Florida Economic Consortium for his unwavering support and collaboration. Gratitude also goes to Cate Manley of Apopka Chamber, Mina Robinson of Small Business Advocates, and Mayor Bryan Nelson of the City of Apopka.

Together, we're shaping a future where local economies are robust, businesses are empowered, and communities prosper. - Glen
