On Tuesday, October 27, the Lake Bluff Public Library became aware of a presumed positive COVID case on staff. Out of an abundance of caution, the Library is temporarily closing the building, effective immediately; all in-building services including Curbside Pickup are suspended effective immediately. Service changes are as follows:

--The exterior book drops will be closed for the duration of the closure. Due dates will be adjusted and you will not be charged fines for days that the Library is closed.

--Curbside Pickup is suspended while the Library is closed.

--Library staff will not be available for phone assistance. General inquiries may be sent to our reference desk email: [email protected]. Voicemails will not be answered until after the Library reopens.

--Virtual programming will continue as scheduled.

--eBooks, eAudiobooks, and other digital resources will continue to be available at lakeblufflibrary.org.

The health and safety of our patrons and staff remains our top priority. We will be updating the Library website with new information as we are able to share it. Questions or concerns may be forwarded to Eric Bailey, the Library Director. We hope that you stay healthy and safe during this time.

Reading is Your Passport to Adventure: The Summer Reading Club is here, and it's online! So, what exactly does an online Summer Reading Club look like? We’re glad you asked. The core principles are the same: you read books and/or use Library services, we give you prizes for it. This year, Summer Reading Club participants will use Beanstack to sign up for Summer Reading Club and track their reading. Beanstack is available for free online and can be accessed through a standard web browser on your desktop or laptop, or through the Beanstack app, which can be downloaded directly onto your mobile or tablet device. To collect your prizes, set up a curbside pickup time, and let us know that you're picking up a prize. Sign up and get started at https://lakeblufflibrary.beanstack.org/

As of today, protests against the death of George Floyd have occurred in all 50 states and multiple countries worldwide, and sales of anti-racism titles have outpaced sales for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the latest entry in the Hunger Games series. If you are looking for books to better understand the history of racial social justice and the work currently being done, we've compiled a list of titles for all ages that talk about racism, activism, and inclusion, along with links to many of these titles in our digital collections.

COVID-19 Response
Lake Bluff Public Library
March 11th, 2020

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control is urging readiness. The Lake Bluff Public Library is carefully monitoring the situation and has taken the following steps towards maximizing the safety of its space for community members and staff.

• Work surfaces (public and private), the Main Desk, door k***s, tables, and railings are being sanitized twice daily;
• Hand sanitizer is available at main service points within the building;
• Encouraging patrons to stay home if sick and engage in healthy behaviors such as hand washing when at the Library;
• Providing additional reminders about Library services (such as eBooks) that can be accessed remotely. Some hard to clean objects, such as stuffed animals in Youth Services, are in storage short term; and;
• We are in touch with local health officials and other governmental entities and have a plan in place for safely providing the best possible service should COVID-19 spread further in Lake County.

Programs are not cancelled at this time and the Library remains open. Should this change, information will be posted to the Library’s website, on social media, and at the Library building.

While Library staff members are NOT medical professionals, we are always happy to help direct those with questions to authoritative sources of information. A pathfinder providing links to critical information will shortly be available through the Library’s website. For more information on COVID-19 in the Village of Lake Bluff, please visit: https://www.lakebluff.org/village-news/11-village-news/1021-coronavirus-disease-preparedness-and-prevention

Sincerely,

Eric Bailey
Library Director
