Pres Mary’s weekly email:
WITH THANKS
Well, we did it! We made it past the most nerve-wracking Primary Election ever with a Democratic candidate for governor. While there are still other races that are not yet decided, it is some relief.
I would like to especially thank our GOTV chair, Kate Van Camp. Her tireless efforts created a system that we can easily reuse for future elections. But that work didn’t end with her or her amazing assistant, member Martha Spalding. It was all the volunteers who walked routes to deliver voter guide door hangers and their team captains who helped oversee their progress.
And thank you to Julie Schnieders and Jeanne Lepowsky for organizing calls to late voters. With so many candidates in so many races, it was so important to get as many people as possible out to vote.
You know I always like to say, ‘we couldn’t do this without you’, so thanks to everyone who stepped up and did the work! You are amazing and greatly appreciated.
There is plenty going on between now and the November midterm elections so let’s start with some scheduled activities.
1. THE WEEK AHEAD –
a. June 14th – our second Sunday rally from 11am to 1pm on the corners of El Toro Rd. and Paseo de Valencia. It’s the first anniversary of the ‘No Kings’ protest which is also Flag Day and we’re taking it to the streets!! Bring your best posters – we will have some to borrow. For that day, the No Kings organization is promoting a streamed concert, "Rise Up, Sing Out" which you can find on YouTube. Sign up at for our rally at https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/967436/. Contact Janice Burstin at [email protected] for more information or to volunteer to help.
2. BEYOND THIS WEEK –
a. Tuesday, 6/16 - LWDC Monthly Meeting – CH2 at 7pm our guest speaker will be former California State Controller, Betty Yee presenting “The CA Primary: An Insider’s Perspective”. Come early at 6:30 p.m. to socialize. Bring your sorted recyclable bottles and cans and empty egg cartons (12-packs only) for South County Outreach (SCO). Attendance is free for members; $5 for guests.
b. Bring a backpack for Olivewood kids to our meetings in June and July - Our club is joining other local groups to collect backpacks for the students at Olivewood Elementary School. These are for students from kindergarten to sixth grade who love popular characters and various colors. Can’t make the meeting to donate? Contact Mary Ribando at [email protected]
3. LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS -
a. July 4th Golf Cart Parade - We are looking for more volunteers with a golf cart who would like to participate in this parade. We don’t have all the details yet from recreation, but we’d like to have a good representation of our club. All decorations will be provided. If you’re interested, please reply to this email.
b. A place to drop-off recyclables for South County - We have lost our long-standing drop-off location for donations and could use a place in gates 1-4. If you can help, please reply to this email.
“Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.”

Thanks for all you do; let’s keep going!
