Good Afternoon Laguna Vista! ☀️
I hope everyone is having a great day today.
I'm pleased to report that Laguna Vista fared very well during the recent weather event and the flooding potential that had been forecast for our area. While portions of the Rio Grande Valley experienced periods of heavy rainfall and localized flooding, our community was fortunate to avoid any significant impacts.
I would like to thank our residents for staying informed, preparing ahead of time, and taking the weather forecasts seriously. Your preparedness helps keep our community safe.
I would also like to throw out a huge “thank you” to the volunteers who showed up of their own accord to help staff with the arduous task of filling and dispensing sandbags. Your willingness to step up and support your neighbors is truly appreciated and did not go unnoticed!
Although this event appears to be behind us, we remain in a period where additional rain events are possible. Please continue to monitor weather conditions, stay alert for changing forecasts, and avoid driving through flooded roadways should heavy rainfall occur in the future.
The Laguna Vista Fire Department and Town staff will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
Thank you for your cooperation, and as always, stay safe!

Director of Public Safety

Good Morning Laguna Vista !!
As of this morning, the NWS is advising that the worst is more than likely over. Please stay alert to changing conditions in your immediate area.

🚨 LAGUNA VISTA WEATHER ALERT 🚨

A weak disturbance moving through the region will bring a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms to Deep South Texas through the end of the week. The best opportunity for storm development will be during the afternoon and evening hours, when daytime heating is at its peak.

While widespread rainfall is not expected, any storms that develop could produce:

⚡ Frequent lightning
💨 Gusty winds
🌧️ Brief heavy downpours
⛈️ Rapidly changing weather conditions

Residents planning outdoor activities should remain weather-aware and be prepared to seek shelter if thunderstorms develop.

🌡️ At the same time, a period of dangerous heat is expected to impact the area beginning Wednesday and continuing through at least Friday. Heat index values are forecast to range from 111°F to 120°F, creating an Extreme Heat Risk across Deep South Texas.

These conditions can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or spending extended periods outdoors.

Heat Safety Reminders:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🏠 Spend time in air-conditioned environments whenever possible.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing.
☀️ Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
🚗 Never leave children, elderly individuals, or pets unattended in vehicles.
🐕 Ensure pets have access to shade and fresh water.
👥 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and others who may be vulnerable to the heat.

The Laguna Vista Public Safety Department will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates as necessary.

Please stay safe, stay hydrated, and remain alert to changing weather conditions throughout the week.

⚠️ LAGUNA VISTA WEATHER ADVISORY ⚠️

The Town of Laguna Vista is monitoring the potential for a significant rainfall event beginning Monday evening and continuing through Wednesday.

Current forecasts indicate periods of heavy rainfall may affect our area, creating the potential for significant standing water and localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, roadways, ditches, and locations with poor drainage. In the most heavily impacted locations, water depths of up to three (3) feet may be possible.

Residents are encouraged to:

• Monitor weather forecasts and official updates closely.
• Avoid driving through flooded roadways. Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown.
• Clear storm drains and drainage paths around your property if it can be done safely.
• Secure outdoor items and prepare for the possibility of prolonged periods of rain.
• Use caution when traveling during periods of heavy rainfall and reduced visibility.

I know this is a long read, but this is the latest from the NWS Brownsville. Please take a moment and be aware of the strong probability of heavy rains and flooding. Let`s stay safe out there!!

Bottom Lines
Tropical moisture continues to build over Deep South Texas. There is a low (30%) chance that a broad low pressure system across northeastern Mexico can develop after re-emerging over the Gulf Tuesday or Wednesday.

A weak front is expected to stall to our north over South Texas. This will tap into the abnormally moist atmosphere and create a favorable environment for showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday. Heavy rainfall rates (2+ inch per hour) in heavier showers or stronger thunderstorms are expected. Forecast rainfall totals from Monday into Wednesday are 3 to 6 inches widespread, with locally higher amounts up to 8 inches or higher where showers or thunderstorms persist.

What's New?
A Flood Watch has been issued for all of Deep South Texas from 1 PM Monday afternoon to 7 AM Wednesday morning.
The Weather Prediction Center has upgraded most of Deep South Texas to a Moderate (level 3 of 4) Risk of Excessive Rainfall Monday into early Tuesday.

Generally, along and west of US-77/I-69E, leaving a Slight (level 2 of 4) Risk of Excessive Rainfall east to the coast.

A Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall means numerous flash floods are likely.

Timing and Overview
Rest of Today: Isolated flash flooding possible during the day and late tonight.
Medium to moderate (30-50%) rain chances this afternoon.
Isolated to scattered showers/storms continue through the afternoon.
Chances diminish slightly past sunset and increase again after midnight.
Forecast rainfall amount range:
West of I-69C: Trace to 0.5 inch
East of I-69C: 0.25 to 1 inch
Tonight: moderate to high (50-70%) rain chances, mainly along the coast and lower to mid RGV.
Monday: Numerous flash floods likely across most of Deep South Texas to scattered flash flooding possible along the coast
Moderate to high (50-80%) rain chances, lowest along the southeastern coast.
Showers and isolated storms begin overnight and persist through the day, most likely timing in the afternoon/evening.
Forecast rainfall amount range:
1.5 to 3 inches, locally higher
Monday night: high (75-90%) rain chances.
Tuesday: Scattered flash flooding possible
High (80-90%) rain chances. Decreasing overnight to moderate-high (50-75%).
Forecast rainfall amount range:
1.5 to 3 inches, locally higher
Wednesday & Thursday: Isolated to scattered flash flooding possible in coastal counties

Guidance remains uncertain when rain will begin to move offshore.
Moderate (40-60%) rain chances along the coast Wednesday, decreasing to low (15% or less) Thursday.

Early rainfall estimates for this timeframe are between 0.5 to 2 inches from west to east, locally higher amounts possible where rain persists along the coast.

Coastal: There is a High Risk of Rip Currents until 7 PM tonight.
Confidence

Confidence is high that heavy rainfall is observed across all of Deep South Texas Monday and Tuesday.

Confidence is medium in the above rainfall totals, including isolated areas receiving over 6 inches of rain by Wednesday morning.
There is an abundance of deep tropical moisture - but there remains some uncertainty: the scattered nature of the storms, position of the low, and how everything interacts with the frontal boundary Tuesday into Wednesday.

Confidence is lower in heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding Wednesday or Thursday, with most model guidance now trending drier through this period.

A Heartfelt Message to Our Neighborhood Heroes:

Town of Laguna Vista Announces Formation of Veterans Group

June 6, 1944, forever known as D-Day, marked the beginning of the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II. On that day, more than 156,000 Allied troops crossed the English Channel and stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, in one of the largest and most significant military operations in history. The courage, sacrifice, and determination demonstrated by those service members helped secure freedom for future generations and changed the course of world history.
Today was chosen to launch this Veterans Group in honor of the men and women who served on D-Day and the millions of veterans who have followed in their footsteps throughout the history of the United States. From the Revolutionary War to present-day military operations, American veterans have answered the call to serve, defend our nation, and protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.
In recognition of that service and sacrifice, the Town of Laguna Vista is pleased to announce the formation of a new Veterans Group dedicated to bringing local veterans together in a welcoming and supportive environment.
This group is being established as a place where veterans can connect with fellow veterans, share experiences, build friendships, and enjoy meaningful conversations with others who understand the unique challenges and rewards of military service.
Whether you served recently or many years ago, in peacetime or during conflict, all veterans are encouraged to participate. There is no agenda beyond fostering camaraderie, mutual support, and a sense of community among those who have worn our nation's uniform.
This is an opportunity to:
• Meet and connect with other local veterans
• Share stories and experiences in a comfortable setting
• Build new friendships and support networks
• Learn about veteran resources and community opportunities
• Help shape the future of the group
While I personally have not earned the right to sit among you as a fellow veteran, I want each of you to know that I deeply respect your service and sacrifice. My role will simply be to help facilitate and support this group in any way possible. I will make every effort to accommodate the needs and requests of the members so that this can become a meaningful resource for those who choose to participate.
I would also like to encourage support from our non-veteran neighbors and friends. Something as simple as homemade cookies, cake, snacks, coffee, or other refreshments can help create a welcoming atmosphere for conversation and fellowship. Our veterans hold a very special place in my heart, and I know many members of our community feel the same way.
Recently, I have noticed more of our veterans carrying burdens that may not always be visible. Some are hurting, some may feel isolated, and some simply need the opportunity to talk with others who understand their experiences. As a community, we have an obligation to stand beside those who once stood for us. This group is a small step toward ensuring our veterans know they are valued, respected, remembered, and never alone.
As plans are finalized, meeting dates and times will be announced. At this time, the anticipated meeting location will be the Laguna Vista Volunteer Fire Department, located at 235 Santa Isabel Boulevard, Laguna Vista, Texas 78578.
If you are a veteran and are interested in being part of this new organization, we encourage you to attend and help us build a strong veteran community here in Laguna Vista.
For additional information, please contact Public Safety Director Neil Waters at (956) 518-1000 or by email at [email protected].
Together, we can create a place where veterans support veterans.
To all veterans—thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your continued example of courage and dedication. We look forward to building a place where stories can be shared, friendships can be strengthened, and support can always be found.
Freedom isn't free. It has been purchased and preserved through the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of generations of American veterans. May we never forget the price that has been paid for the liberties we enjoy today, and may we always honor those who answered the call to serve.
Respectfully,
Neil Waters
