MEDIA RELEASE

Laguna Beach Police Department Holding DUI Checkpoint Friday, June 5, 2026

LAGUNA BEACH, CA – On Friday, June 5, 2026, the Laguna Beach Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk, any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.

The Laguna Beach Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

We also want to recognize the families and mentors who support our members every step of the way. These processes demand time and sacrifice and support systems play a critical role in each person’s success.

Last night, Laguna Engine 4, along with and responded to Thousand Steps Beach for a reported medical emergency. Upon arrival, Engine 4 Paramedics assessed one patient and determined that an air ambulance was needed due to the challenging terrain and limited access. Engine 4 coordinated with 4 and the patient was treated and safely transported to a local hospital. Many of Laguna Beach’s shoreline access points can be difficult to navigate, especially during emergencies. We encourage all visitors to check in with lifeguards, be aware of conditions, and know your physical limits before accessing our beaches.

Through the driver’s lens—Engine 2 responding Code 3 earlier today to a reported vehicle fire in the 1400 block of Coral Dr. 🚒💨

Crews arrived to find a car fire and quickly extinguished it, preventing any extension into the nearby structure.

No injuries were reported. Another fast, coordinated response to keep our community safe. 🔥

While returning from scheduled maintenance, our OES (Office of Emergency Services) engine came upon a vehicle fire that had just ignited. Our Captain, who was driving, arrived first on scene and immediately took action, quickly knocking down the fire.

The two occupants of the vehicle were able to safely exit and were uninjured.

Engine 50 arrived shortly thereafter, completing final extinguishment and conducting overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully out.
