End of May means garden season is in full swing here in Georgia 🌿☀️

Here are a few things to stay on top of heading into summer:

• Refresh mulch around plants to help retain moisture
• Continue staking and pruning tomatoes
• Keep an eye out for pests on squash and cucumbers
• Deadhead flowers to encourage more blooms
• Water deeply during the early morning hours
• Harvest herbs regularly to keep plants productive

Fireflies are more than summer nostalgia, they’re important nighttime pollinators and their populations are declining. ✨🐞

Simple changes like turning off outdoor lights, leaving the leaves, reducing pesticides, and creating natural habitat spaces can help protect them for future generations.

The Master Gardeners were back out at the Horace King Bridge Garden this week continuing work in the space. From cleanup to planting and general maintenance, it’s been great seeing the garden continue to come together a little more each visit.

We’re excited to keep growing this community space for LaGrange 🌿

We’re hosting a sourdough workshop with Olivia Handley from Coweta County Extension Office 🥖

If you’ve been wanting to learn sourdough but didn’t know where to start, this is a good place to jump in. We’ll cover how to care for a starter, what actually matters when baking, and how to make it work at home without overcomplicating it.
