**SAVE THE DATE**
LaGrange Mayor Jim Arrington, in partnership with Get Troup Reading and the Rotary Club of LaGrange, is launching the second annual LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club.

The mission of the LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club is to provide quality books and resources for the whole family to enjoy together while strengthening the literacy skills of children ages 2 to 10.

“Last summer’s Mayor’s Reading Club was such a great experience, and we loved seeing so many families come out and enjoy reading together,” said LaGrange Mayor Jim Arrington. “Because of that excitement and support, we’re excited to bring it back again this summer. Reading is such an important part of a child’s growth, and these events are a fun way for kids and families to spend time together, and build a love for books.”

The LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club is a program from GeorgiaForward, a nonprofit organization managed by the Georgia Municipal Association. This initiative empowers mayors to lead literacy efforts in their communities and encourages reading among young children through books and events.

“The success of the first LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club was incredible. More than 900 parent-child connections were made at our events, and each was a face-to-face interaction with a parent on the importance of not only reading with their child but also discussing the story, describing the characters and setting, recognizing the story's problem, and learning new vocabulary,” said Get Troup Reading Executive Director Kim Myers.

“Parents and caregivers expanding on stories in this way help their children become better readers. We are so excited for the 2026 Mayor’s Reading Club with four new books and parents’ guides to be shared at four new locations throughout the city.

The LaGrange Mayor’s Reading Club will host the four free events this summer:

- Thursday, May 21st, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Overlook Plaza, 308 Main Street, in downtown LaGrange at the Downtown LaGrange Development Authority/Wild Leap’s End of School Celebration.
- Thursday, July 2nd, 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the LaGrange Memorial Library, 115 Alford Street, LaGrange, GA.
- Thursday, July 10th, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the William J. Griggs Center, 716 Glenn Robertson Drive, LaGrange, GA.
- Saturday, July 18th, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at LaGrange Art Museum, 112 Lafayette Pkwy, LaGrange, GA.
